Happy 2021 to all! Big thank you for hanging out and being awesome for the first two-ish months of the site. It's been fun so far, looking forwards to a lot this year! If you haven't seen, after a delay, the last day of the advent can be claimed now (here). You have three choices for your last advent prize including a second chance at a creature pass. That's right we have creatures coming to Aesseldar now! Be sure to check the announcement for any rule clarifications if you're interested. Last big bit of news we do have our light layout "in the mist" ready to be used. There will still be tweaks and color changes coming in the next week or so by the fantastic dusk so don't be afraid if things look a little different.

12/15/2020 Staff
Congratulations to Zay for winning the pride raffle with Runar! Welcome our new pride, Adamo Autumna! Don't forget to keep posting in the advent to claim your awesome prizes, and within the next few days you'll see some additional posts cropping up in the ooc areas. We'd love some feedback on the site and will be adding an area for feedback and suggestions. We will also be adding a thread to post all your open threads. Another fantastic surprise is that Koafox (some of you may know her as Miranda from other sites) has said we are welcome to use their table switcher plugin. As soon as I get the files we will be integrating that into the site for everyone to enjoy!

12/7/2020 Staff
TWO news posts back to back my oh my stuff must be brewing! We wanted to let everyone know that the third pride slot has opened. Unlike the other slots we wanted to give everyone a chance to go for it as well, so we'll be raffling it! In order to enter the raffle please DM an admin or the Eoin account with your OOC and which character you'd like to enter the raffle with. The only requirement that has to be met is that the character must be 2 years of age or older (meaning that number of posts and feathers doesn't matter). So get your entries in, the more the merrier as we head into the new year! The other exciting news is that our neutral/lighter colored layout will be out by the end of the year, thanks to the lovely dusk!

Thank you so much everyone for a fantastic first month opening. We wanted to thank you all and let you know that we've decided to extend the grand opening bonuses for one more week, so you can bring in your first three characters free through 12/11! In other news our first contests have started and we couldn't be more excited! You may participate in the following, if you haven't already partaken: Advent Calendar, Superlatives, Advertising Contest, OTMs, and the Writing Contests. We'll be releasing another update soon with some super fun surprises, but some of Eoin's events have drawn to an end and it appears some new boards may start popping up! Expect to see more of Eoin, as well as some adjustment to the event threads, for some of the future boards as well!

11/28/2020 Staff
As we bring another week to close we'd like to welcome everyone to participate in our first contest! The Advertising contest is up and provides some really great rewards, as well as participation rewards! Coming soon are the first set of OTMs and superlatives, a writing contest, a sneak peak at our more refined skills system, and a few other small updates. Happy weekend everyone!

11/19/2020 Staff
Thank you everyone for having joined us so far for our site opening and help us grow our community. We have had so many wonderful suggestions, and while we are processing some things and working on the skills, we wanted to let you all know that the OTMs and superlatives are coming! Keep an eye out soon for those. Also it appears that Eoin has been wandering around Aesseldar and may be up to no good... best get checking on his apperances for some good old fashion fun, and maybe even a sweet surprise!

11/4/2020 Staff
Welcome everyone to the grand opening of Aesseldar! We are excited to open our doors and build a community with all of you. As we being our journey together we would love you all to read through the grand opening thread, and remember that while we're transitioning into the start of this, we still have a few fantastic surprises coming. Our skill system is underway and we hope to have that out by the end of November, we would also love to have you all in the Discord with us and welcome any and all suggestions and feedback to help us improve the site! We have a number of things still to come, including a lighter colored layout, accessories in the shop, and would love to remind everyone that the top right series of three vertical dashes will open up the sidebar. In order to reference what IC month it is you will find the calendar link in the sidebar. Happy posting!

With three new terrains open and a third pride staking a claim once more, our mischievous deity Eoin appears to be up to no good again. The quake that cracked open the mountain and closed it once more was felt around the lands, and three new terrains popped open. Tryphosa Shore now has an Atoll sub-board, and there is a Desert and a Rift board. Several more will be coming... but first Eoin will make an impression.

11/17/2020 Eoin
The rainforest trembles, as if fighting back against those who dare to occupy it. The lands of Aesseldar are still only half-tamed, unfettered and unwilling to give way to any aspiring King, any growing empire. And just as quick as King Barnabas came to lay claim to it did it begin to push back, forcing his fledgling pride out with an unforgiving downpour, and a bitter resentment of the creatures that dwell within. With one pride felled, it leaves the opportunity for another to rise from the ashes.

11/4/2020 Eoin
It happened on a hot, humid night. No one there to witness it. Somewhere, surely, it could be heard. The start of a crack. The sound vibrating from mountain top to valley dips. It was a long and dreadful noise. Somewhere in the mountains, somehow, one of the peaks had collapsed. An impassible tower of sharpened points- gone. Snow, with the hidden rocks from the destruction, slid down the slopes that were formed by ages. A wave of white forced outward to cover all below. At first it is still much too dangerous to traverse. But with time the new ground settles and with it comes- a pass. On the other side awaits a land untouched by the curious paws. The lands of Aesseldar have been revealved and somewhere down below three pridelands sit empty, awaiting for eager travelers to start staking their claims. Please refer to the grand opening announcement for information on how to claim a pride slot and fully customize it, since there are some grand opening bonuses or exceptions that are not referenced in the guidebook! We would also love to let everyone know that any official in-character news that gets posted in this "in-character" section of the layout is going to be considered common knowledge for any character in-game. Consider it like an in-character bulletin board! We will keep it updated with relevant and applicable information and hope it helps inspire your plots.

Spring Y11
With spring the clouds begin to disperse and the warmer weather begins and new life blooms. With new lands having been discovered there is a plethora of places for the lions to explore and yet somehow that mischievous site deity never seems to stop bringing the surprises, some of which include occasional inclement weathers. Temps varying between 45°-80°F (7°-27°C).

She was far from home, far from the land that she had come to know and love. And she had never felt more alive. Here she had a clean slate, here she could begin again without others having known her, having known her past and that horrid temper that seemed to spoil bonds over time. And though she did fear loneliness she found that it hadn't come yet. She was .. happy. For the most part. It had already begun raining long before she had made the trek here, to these woods that she was completely unfamiliar with. The giant of a woman lumbered through the wood and not very quietly either. The moss was heavy underfoot, soggy and damp from the rain that did manage to sneak it's way through the hooded branches above. And the lady, she paused, that soft plum gaze of her peering up towards the tops of the trees. It would have been eerie here had she not willingly entered the woods. She found the silence, comforting. Away from the prying eyes of others, or so she thought.

This was certainly familiar. He was here again. Though this time he wasn't sleeping. He was just staying. Like a boulder. Still. Unmoving. Quiet. Breaths slow and composed. He had heard her entering the woods awhile ago. And he hadn't moved his eyes off of her, or he thought it was a female.. unless the lion was a male and was missing a pair of balls. Lips curled devilishly at the thought of that. Tail flicked slightly and that was his mistake. The twitch of his rabbit like tail caused the leaves to rustle and give him out. He awaited their gaze to foll on his prying eyes. Though he still remained unmoving. He couldn't move. Not yet. He wanted to see how she searched for him. How she would probably startle. What he was certain of though was that this feline was around his size. And that was something you don't see everyday. He was the one usually looking down on others, but this time he would have to look someone on equal ground. A challenge for his ego.

After a few long moments of wait, he pushed himself up. His enormous body coming into view as he came closer towards the feline. Eyes locked onto them, stalking. Like a spider coming onto it's pray.

Her gaze had been lost upward into the trees, gazing longingly, if only she could climb them. Even as the rain gently fell upon her face, allowing her mane to stick to her cheekbones, she still stared. She imagined herself climbing upward, higher and higher. Unfortunately in reality Minerva's large stature prevented her from doing such things, it would be far too foolish for her to attempt a feat lest she come crashing down to her own demise. She was distracted for a few moments until the sound of leaves crunching pulled her back to this reality. It wasn't a loud sound, but noticeable enough to the lady. Her gaze flickered until it landed on the beast that moved through the foliage. She was not frightened nor did she move from the spot she found herself standing in, even as the rain came down a bit harder through the canopy above. He watched her and she watched him, a moment of silence shared between them. And in that moment Minerva found it to be quite fascinating considering he was the same gargantuan size as herself. It was not often that she saw others like her, aside from her natal pride of course, and this left her curious of the stranger before her. "Why, I thought I was the only one.. well I and my siblings.. but you, you are like me. And we, we are different." She said softly to him, her head cocking slightly to the side as she tossed her skull, moving her damp forelock from her plum gaze so she could really get a look at him. "And you.. who are you?" She purred, muscles tensing for a moment in anticipation.

The reply he expected was totally different from what he got. Her eyes had landed on him, just as his on her and she held his gaze steadily. Not a lot could do that. His ears cupped forward to take in all the sounds she could make. The falling rain crawling down his white fur. She was large.. But not as much as him. But she was just.. fitting. The thought of that caused him to rumble softly. Not a purr, but not a growl either. And then she spoke. Her anticipation and almost awe caused confusion to roll over him, though his scarred face remained stoic. Unmoving. A blank sheet, telling no tales. Her words were so equally disqualifying themselves that he was amused and almost chuckled. Almost.

And you.. who are you?

Her question causing the corners of his lips to curl slightly as he would answer. "Barnabas Nowak." He offered with mild distaste. Striped legs taking him a few more steps forward, confidence and pride in his stance. His bob tail flicked slightly and his head lowered just a bit, so his eyes could meet hers clearly. "And you are?" Maybe he would play along. Let's see where trying to be nice would take him.

He moved forwards, closer, and even still Minerva remained motionless. Her plum eyes focused on his gaze, ignoring the scars that loitered upon his face. Briefly she wondered how they had gotten there, but she was still far too distracted with wanting to know who he was to really dwell upon them. 'Barnabas Nowak. And you are?' She could hear the distaste as it rolled from his tongue, hmm well that wouldn't do now would it? "Minerva. Just Minerva." She replied to him curtly, not out of malice but simply because there was no last name to bear. Plum gaze continued to watch him curiously, the rain pattering between them. They were but a few steps away from one another now and though anyone else would probably find the silence to be unsettling between them Minerva was even more intrigued. "Are you alone, Barnabas?" She asked of him. Of course Minerva was almost certain that he was, but she wanted to hear from him that he was. Her tail flicked once, idly against her curvaceous flanks before settling behind her.

Minerva. Just Minerva.

Her answer caused him to let out a low rough chuckle. Something he thought he couldn't do. Where did it even come from. It disappeared as fast as it came. The silence around them was welcomed. The sound of the rain was the only music to his ears that he needed. For a second there he listened to each drop that hit the ground beneath them. It could make you drift to sleep. And then he was back. His lips parted and he let out a rumble. "Just Minerva." He repeated, tasting her name on his tongue. It tasted weird. He shook his head to let some droplets fly to the sides, before his eyes settled back on her as her next question came. Was he alone. Well, he was sure he didn't look like he was with someone. But maybe this was her own game. And so he played along.

"I am. Are you alone?" He replied and asked at the same time. His own question, almost teasing. Prodding. She was prodding at his mind and his intentions. And he had to admit, none of those were innocent. In fact, they were beginning to get dark and dirty.

He chuckled and the sound caused her ears to cup forwards, a coy smile curving her lips upward in the process. Here they were like a bunch of lunatics standing in the rain, laughing, but it felt completely and utterly sane. 'Just Minerva. I am. Are you alone?' He asked her and to that she paused, pondering for a moment on how she should answer such a thing. "Well I suppose I was until I met you. Now I'm not alone anymore." She responded to him, a mischievous glint to her gaze as she paused once more. "Listen I'm not from around here, suppose you could show me the place? We are already out in the rain after all." She said to him, allowing him plenty of time to turn tail and run if he decided that's what he wanted. But Minerva was happy to have his company; it was the first company she had had in a long while and she wouldn't be so easy going about letting him go.

Her reply was so unexpected that the found himself off guard. He didn't remember the last time someone was this nice with him. Maybe because he was always mean to everyone. Though this was different in a way, He didn't really know how to act. What to say. He stared at her for awhile and before he could react in any way to her first statement, she spoke again. Her honey tones were so fitting for her plum eyes--- Wait what? Ears reclined backwards to the thought of that. What the actual fuck. A shake of his face, before he answers. "There isn't much to see here, Just Minerva. Though there are some small dry spaces, that would be hard to keep us at appropriate distance." He teased with a rumble that came from his chest. His eyes following her emotions that would probably show on her face. He was enjoying the show, the company and the rain.

Maybe some difference in his life would be a good change in his monotonous day. Yeah. After he decided on that, he regained his focus, hoping he didn't miss her answer to his teasing facts, ears cupping forward, striped legs taking another step towards her.

'There isn't much to see here, Just Minerva. Though there are some small dry spaces, that would be hard to keep us at appropriate distance.' She found herself smiling as he teased her, this banter was so easy between them. As if they had known each other for years and not minutes. A connection, a spark, and Minerva decided that she would protect him at all cost. Completely unaware of the nasty side of the stranger before her, the side that brewed beneath the surface. Like a coin with two sides, in time she would come to meet the true individual that was hiding inside of Barnabas. In time. But now, she wanted to take him up on his offer. "I think I would like to find some shelter after all. Perhaps you could lead the way?" She said to him softly, her plum gaze never wavering. She was not afraid of him, not afraid of what could be.

When he had teased her, he was sure that she would decline the offer and prefer to find shelter alone. Well, again he was mistaken. Her words were sure and confident, that she wanted him to go with her, that he felt almost bad for letting his mind go there. It had been some time since he allowed himself to relax in that way, but he was one against forcefully getting what he wanted. A huff slipped passed his mouth and he gave a soft nod. "This way. Don't stray, I won't go searching for you if the mist separates you." He stated without any concern what she would think of that. But maybe the truth was, he would look for her. He pushed the thought aside, took another step towards her, to taste her breath and then turned abruptly and almost painfully as he made his way on towards the shelter he had found himself.

They had to walk for awhile, before they arrived. It was like a small den, dry from the rain, thanks to the shrubs and small trees that tangled their leaves and branches to form a roof. He stopped in front of it, tried to calculate just how much space was there and would it be enough for both, but after a second he moved forward and got in, laying down his paws sticking slightly out, so he bent them in, his body curled sideways so she could have enough space to lay and glue herself to him.
