The rainforest seemed more alive than ever. The buzz of insects was almost a roar to those within. Assaults with stingers and pinchers are sure to come. For some reason the jungle seems to still be upset. It is felt in the way the moisture is chokingly thick. The trees rattled their leaves as if to protest further intrusion. However, there is a hum. A soft and musical like sound that no one could quite place that bounced from trunk to trunk. From space to space until it filled every void within the dense rainforest. A sound that can not just be heard, but felt as the melody called out like a precious lullaby.

The boundary of the river had given way to a swathy forest instead of the drier climate he'd been used to. It was wetter - the tree trunks were dripping with water it seemed and Alaric wasn't entirely sure this was somewhere he particularly enjoyed. He was used to something drier - warm but not sticky like this was. As he moved through the rainforest however, dark stained ears had begun to pick up on the increasing noise. His massive body did not stop moving, but his steps were measured and his brow furrowed. There was rhythm in the insects croaking, the rub of crickets' legs together and their chirps as well. It certainly wasn't entirely random like normal. Something was going on here and the man felt a prickle up his darkened spine. He paused now, heart rate fluttering as he tried to figure out what exactly was happening in the rainforest around him, as the crescendo increased.

Curled ears flicked back, slick against the obsidian goddesses skull from the constant buzz of pests and croaking from the trees. Dark paws pressed against the moist ground of the rain forest as she headed inland, where life was rich and prey easy to find. She had been following the scent of a hare when I ended abruptly- smudged by the scent of a male lion, and she growled in frustration, turning to follow it instead, planning on giving the insolent boy a smack for ruining the scent trail being followed by such a noble lady. As she stalked after it, oddly enough the buzzing increased in speed, the rhythm of the rain forest became frantic- as if the trees themselves were panicking. Her eyes met the large rump of a dark male, and she huffed to alert him, trotting to his right side, but a yard away so she wouldn't get claws on the side of her face while distracted. "Any idea what in hells name is wrong with the forest? Something is..... Off." shd said with a growl and flick of one of her curled ears.

Nat was collecting herbs when everything started to turn topsy-turvy. Initially, the insects' noise was enough to make her feel a little uneasy. She wasn't crazy about bugs on a normal day; however, turn up the volume and the angry factor, and she was even less fond of the circumstances. It went without saying that her anxiety was elevated. In fact, she was just about to gather her bundle of herbs and go when the screams of millions of insects gave way to a medley of hums. Her ears flattened against her skull as she swung her head around to try to decipher the source of the sounds. She saw nothing, save for two massive lions, which did nothing to soothe her nerves. "You hear that, too, right?" she called out to the pair, unsure if they knew one another. Abandoning her herbs, she closed the distance between herself and the strangers, not wanting to be alone right now.

♛ Was this madness? She heard a sound that had not source, felt an electric hum through her blood where there was no current. The crimson woman had seen madness before - dazed elders wailing at the moon, young heretics caught in the throws of strange possessions. Her brow furrowed as she slunk through the choking undergrowth. The meandering trot carried her slowly, calmly through the verdant greenery, but there was a frenetic speed to the swivel of her dark ears as they followed the shifting noise. The scent of strangers was no deterrent to her curiousity, and her meandering trail led her to a small group of lions already talking among themselves. Though normally not one to embrace silence and withdrawal, in this instance, Bathsheba stood back and remained quiet, awaiting whatever would unfold. A quick, wondering glance was cast over her shoulder, pale eyes cutting to their corners as she wondered what forces were at play.

There is no real sense of time to those that had come to the beckon from the rain forest. It continued on as if the soft melody would never cease. Though just as abruptly as it had all started, it ended. It was an eerie silence that settled in the blink of an eye. A perfect calm has even the insects stopped their will to buzz.

In the silence, the vibration can be heard. A low rumble that spreads from sound to touch. It came from the ground. Soon it became aggressive enough that all upon it would rattle. It started with one single rat. It darted from the north and scurried to the south. Then another and another. Until there is more than just the rodents. Deer, bear, skunks, and more. All in a full run as they aim to escape to the south.

The same unspoken melody returned. A soft purr beneath the rumble of the heard that thundered by just close enough to nearly miss those that had gathered. It seemed to push and prod at those it had brought here- into the direction the others ran.

Would the lions follow?

Something was.... Off. Not wrong- but.... Not right. The sounds and words of the gathering lions around her became a droning buzz. They faded from thr world, and it was if there was a current. And she was standing in it. Birds, deer, animals of all sorts ran through it, towards whatever lake of power it emptied into. Obsidian paws were pulled. This feeling- it was exhilarating. She wanted more. She wanted whatever controlled it or whomever.... She needed to meet them. The creatures that ran past her seemed only to be blurrs of light, streaks of pure energy in her vision. Was she energy? What was happening? Were the gods calling her back, to finally rid her of this mortal form? To finally free her from its restricting flesh? For any who could see her gaze, the ember orange that blazed from it was no more, her pupils were well dilated, as if she had eaten a field of catmint.

There is an electrical rush in the chaos of the stampede. A current that shifted through each form that occupied it. More and more seemed to join until there is no longer land or trees to be seen. Just the bodies of various animals. Some prey, some predator.

There is no stopping them. The pound of hooves, paws, and more that thundered on. They broke past the southern border in a matter of seconds. However, the one who had braved the sea of flesh and joined within would be pushed to the back. A force that can not be seen or heard. Only felt as it aimed to slow her travels, but not to stop her.

One by one each body would vanish. As if swallowed by the ground itself. And truly, perhaps they were as each reaches the almost unseen abyss. One after another did they fall. The ground had escaped them in their rush. The hole swallowed them without regret.

There are only thuds to be heard as the bodies reach the ground below, unseen from any who look in. The hole is far too deep and dark to make out anything else.

All would be gone until the only soul left at the edge would be the lioness. The force that had aimed to slow her had now gone.

She wasn't sure how long she followed the sea of beasts. The world changed so much as she moved with them, the bodies jostled her every which way, but something felt different. The stream began to slow, began to stop flowing so strongly, but everything else kept moving. Clarity entered the mortal goddess's head, her pupils returning to normal size as the world came to focus around her- and her paws stopped mere feet from the edge of a trench. A gods mouth, an ever consuming rift in the earth that swallowed the creatures still trapped by the blurry thoughts of the stream that lead them there. For a split moment, she was horrified. A woman who had slaughtered three husbands, birthed a deformed child, and eaten a cousin of their kind felt fear for what had happened- for she witnissed the gods mouth open. But as her mind established its own peace, she realized it was a sign- she was not alone. Dark paws looked around, took note of direction, and began walking back the way she came, her curled ears only giving a flick as the last creature fell to its demise, its bleating scream cut short from the endless black rift.
