Happy 2021 to all! Big thank you for hanging out and being awesome for the first two-ish months of the site. It's been fun so far, looking forwards to a lot this year! If you haven't seen, after a delay, the last day of the advent can be claimed now (here). You have three choices for your last advent prize including a second chance at a creature pass. That's right we have creatures coming to Aesseldar now! Be sure to check the announcement for any rule clarifications if you're interested. Last big bit of news we do have our light layout "in the mist" ready to be used. There will still be tweaks and color changes coming in the next week or so by the fantastic dusk so don't be afraid if things look a little different.

Congratulations to Zay for winning the pride raffle with Runar! Welcome our new pride, Adamo Autumna! Don't forget to keep posting in the advent to claim your awesome prizes, and within the next few days you'll see some additional posts cropping up in the ooc areas. We'd love some feedback on the site and will be adding an area for feedback and suggestions. We will also be adding a thread to post all your open threads. Another fantastic surprise is that Koafox (some of you may know her as Miranda from other sites) has said we are welcome to use their table switcher plugin. As soon as I get the files we will be integrating that into the site for everyone to enjoy!

TWO news posts back to back my oh my stuff must be brewing! We wanted to let everyone know that the third pride slot has opened. Unlike the other slots we wanted to give everyone a chance to go for it as well, so we'll be raffling it! In order to enter the raffle please DM an admin or the Eoin account with your OOC and which character you'd like to enter the raffle with. The only requirement that has to be met is that the character must be 2 years of age or older (meaning that number of posts and feathers doesn't matter). So get your entries in, the more the merrier as we head into the new year! The other exciting news is that our neutral/lighter colored layout will be out by the end of the year, thanks to the lovely dusk!

Thank you so much everyone for a fantastic first month opening. We wanted to thank you all and let you know that we've decided to extend the grand opening bonuses for one more week, so you can bring in your first three characters free through 12/11! In other news our first contests have started and we couldn't be more excited! You may participate in the following, if you haven't already partaken: Advent Calendar, Superlatives, Advertising Contest, OTMs, and the Writing Contests. We'll be releasing another update soon with some super fun surprises, but some of Eoin's events have drawn to an end and it appears some new boards may start popping up! Expect to see more of Eoin, as well as some adjustment to the event threads, for some of the future boards as well!

11/28/2020 Staff
As we bring another week to close we'd like to welcome everyone to participate in our first contest! The Advertising contest is up and provides some really great rewards, as well as participation rewards! Coming soon are the first set of OTMs and superlatives, a writing contest, a sneak peak at our more refined skills system, and a few other small updates. Happy weekend everyone!

11/19/2020 Staff
Thank you everyone for having joined us so far for our site opening and help us grow our community. We have had so many wonderful suggestions, and while we are processing some things and working on the skills, we wanted to let you all know that the OTMs and superlatives are coming! Keep an eye out soon for those. Also it appears that Eoin has been wandering around Aesseldar and may be up to no good... best get checking on his apperances for some good old fashion fun, and maybe even a sweet surprise!

11/4/2020 Staff
Welcome everyone to the grand opening of Aesseldar! We are excited to open our doors and build a community with all of you. As we being our journey together we would love you all to read through the grand opening thread, and remember that while we're transitioning into the start of this, we still have a few fantastic surprises coming. Our skill system is underway and we hope to have that out by the end of November, we would also love to have you all in the Discord with us and welcome any and all suggestions and feedback to help us improve the site! We have a number of things still to come, including a lighter colored layout, accessories in the shop, and would love to remind everyone that the top right series of three vertical dashes will open up the sidebar. In order to reference what IC month it is you will find the calendar link in the sidebar. Happy posting!

12/15/2020 Eoin
With three new terrains open and a third pride staking a claim once more, our mischievous deity Eoin appears to be up to no good again. The quake that cracked open the mountain and closed it once more was felt around the lands, and three new terrains popped open. Tryphosa Shore now has an Atoll sub-board, and there is a Desert and a Rift board. Several more will be coming... but first Eoin will make an impression.

11/17/2020 Eoin
The rainforest trembles, as if fighting back against those who dare to occupy it. The lands of Aesseldar are still only half-tamed, unfettered and unwilling to give way to any aspiring King, any growing empire. And just as quick as King Barnabas came to lay claim to it did it begin to push back, forcing his fledgling pride out with an unforgiving downpour, and a bitter resentment of the creatures that dwell within. With one pride felled, it leaves the opportunity for another to rise from the ashes.

11/4/2020 Eoin
It happened on a hot, humid night. No one there to witness it. Somewhere, surely, it could be heard. The start of a crack. The sound vibrating from mountain top to valley dips. It was a long and dreadful noise. Somewhere in the mountains, somehow, one of the peaks had collapsed. An impassible tower of sharpened points- gone. Snow, with the hidden rocks from the destruction, slid down the slopes that were formed by ages. A wave of white forced outward to cover all below. At first it is still much too dangerous to traverse. But with time the new ground settles and with it comes- a pass. On the other side awaits a land untouched by the curious paws. The lands of Aesseldar have been revealved and somewhere down below three pridelands sit empty, awaiting for eager travelers to start staking their claims. Please refer to the grand opening announcement for information on how to claim a pride slot and fully customize it, since there are some grand opening bonuses or exceptions that are not referenced in the guidebook! We would also love to let everyone know that any official in-character news that gets posted in this "in-character" section of the layout is going to be considered common knowledge for any character in-game. Consider it like an in-character bulletin board! We will keep it updated with relevant and applicable information and hope it helps inspire your plots.

Spring Y11
With spring the clouds begin to disperse and the warmer weather begins and new life blooms. With new lands having been discovered there is a plethora of places for the lions to explore and yet somehow that mischievous site deity never seems to stop bringing the surprises, some of which include occasional inclement weathers. Temps varying between 45°-80°F (7°-27°C).

The hellhound finds itself in unfamiliar territory - not because it's stumbled into a swamp, but rather because it's never been to this swamp before. And, being who and what it is, the hellhound doesn't turn around and leave like most sane beings would do if they found themselves in an unfamiliar swamp at sunset. No - this particular beast decides to plunge headlong into the murky depths of the place, lips quirked upwards in amusement. Is it any wonder the creature's offspring are more than a little nuts? No, of course not - not when this is the genetic fountain they're springing from.

Mud drags at the thick fur on the hound's limbs with every step, trying to suck the beast down - but the holographic hellbeast has no intention of feeding the swamp's appetite, at least not tonight. One eye - the only one the monster has left - peers this way and that, on lookout for crocodiles. Just because the beast had met a nice one as a child doesn't mean they're not wary; for all the hound knows, it'd met the one and only polite crocodile in existence. Fur like arterial spray stands out even in the growing darkness of the swamp, and holographic striping doesn't help.

They're a beacon as they move through the trees and the mud - searching for something. There is, supposedly, a specific herb that grows only in swamps - and it is an herb needed by the beast's creepiest child. Why, the beast doesn't know - one doesn't ask Death what they intend to do with an herb that only grows in swamps. One simply retrieves the herb and gets the fuck out of the way. Of course, Legion would never harm their pa-ma, as Legion's twin brother likes to call the hound, but the crimson creature would just as soon not become involved in whatever spookery Leggie is up to now.

Besides, it isn't as if poor Kokushibo won't get roped into Leggie's schemes - the darling boy would do anything to please his parents or siblings, and unfortunately for him Leggie has no issues about taking advantage of that fact. Sighing, the bloodborn beast continues its treck through the muck - only to stop abruptly as it catches sight of the exact herb it's hunting for. Yanking its paws up out of the mud as best as it can, it attempts to lope over to the herb. It's slow going, and looks sort of ridiculous - a lion trying to emulate the high-stepping gate of a dressage horse - but the hound manages to make it all the same.

The hound hovers over its prize, about to snatch it, when a sound has its head snapping upright. Wary gaze searches for the source of the noise, thick nest of curls falling over the ruined half of their face to conceal their blinded eye. No need to reveal weakness preemptively, after all. A low rumble of warning escapes from the heavily-scarred monstrosity, lips curling just a little - if anyone thinks to ambush the hound, they'll be getting a rude greeting. Who's there? The hound calls, ears twisting in an attempt to locate the source of the sound it had heard. The beast is going to be heavily irritated if it has to make a run for it with this herb from a crocodile - but it's well aware it isn't quite powerful enough to fight one and win.

The murk didn't bother the fire goddess, for she traveled through a swamp with her children to meet these lands. While, in fact, the stagnant water and sickly sweet smelling mud painted her fur a vile greenish hue, she worried naught- for she knew that she was of great beauty, and strutted and walked as so. The mud and water threatened to consume her, but she trudged on, her height a tremendous help to her travels. Why exactly she was here? Well- deep within the swamp was pools of silky mud, heated by underground pockets of steam. Resting in them unriched the fur- and was simply utterly relaxing. But oddly enough, the sucking of another traveler through mud caught her attention, and she peeked through the trees to see a mud soaked creature. A very.... Small.... Lion... Very small. Well- to her, anyways. Volcan was larger than the average lioness.
Whos there?
Volcan smiled her wicked cracked smile and strode forward on the thin strip of semi-solid land between them. Stopping mere feet from the red beast. Worry naught, little rose, im not here to damage your precious petals~ she purred.

ooc; mobile post, I'll edit in the table later owo

A midnight behemoth - reminiscent of the hellbeast's first wife, in coloration and stature - appears, and seems to be trying to reassure the demon that she's not here to cause any harm. Lip curling up on one side in a sort of mocking amusement, the hellhound tosses its mane back to reveal the full - startling - expanse of its scarred features. Someone already beat you to it, anyways, comes the rumbling growl of the beast's voice. It sounds aggressive, but then everything about the hound tends to come across that way - coloration, markings, body language, actual spoken language, all the fights the hound has gotten into... they're just aggro as hell. A blind man could see that much.

Not quite comfortable enough to sit down - on the off chance that this lioness might, gasp, be lying about not wanting to start shit - the beast instead digs the plant they'd come here for out of the mud. Once the creature has it, roots and all, it sets the plant down within easy grabbing reach in case it needs to get the hell out of dodge. Not that the hound thinks it couldn't take Volcan in a fight if it had to, but the time of throwing its life away for no good reason is over. The hound has children, a wife - and the beast is not quite as broken as it had been after its stint in a gladiator arena. The hound's first children had been the only thing that kept the beast alive - without them, there would have been no reason to keep going.

Without them, the beast would never have met Genya.

Shaking the suddenly stunning clarity of that thought out of its head, the beast refocuses on Volcan and rumbles, What brings you to the swamp, if not preying on unwary victims? Not that anybody could ever accuse the hound of being unwary - or really even a victim, despite the alarming amount of scars on the stocky little beast's body. The hellhound always has come across as much larger and stronger than their body truly is, but that could just be the Napoleon syndrome that the beast probably doesn't even realize it has. And what's your name? So I have something else to call you aside from 'Totally Not Here To Eat People.' That's kind of a mouthful, y'know, and I'm lazy. Although the almost violent muscle definition across the entirety of the hound's body clearly suggests otherwise - but really, the beast is quite lazy about long names.

I'm Iblis, the hound adds, after a moment.

The surprise was on brief as the little red devil showed their scars, many tales of battle etched forever into their face. The obsidian woman smiled slightly, a mild chuckle erupting from her maw. Well, seems they were determined to make their mark- but not such a shame, it suits you. she purred. She watched as the beast ripped a plant from the bog below their paws, root and all, and set it nearby, within easy reach- smart to be wary of a goddess. I travel here, for somewhere within this swamp is a mud springs, fed by heated water below. It's lovely on the pelt. she stated, tipping her head in a bit of a matter-of-fact way. Iblis, what a striking and exotic name. I am Volcan, a goddess in a mortal host. she stated, her gaze sly and proud.

Things seem to be going along perfectly fine - and then Volcan drops that last little bomb. Blinking a couple of times, slowly, Sonni finally drawls a response - I'm demon and dragon on my mother's side. If that counts for anything. Jeez, though, who the hell runs around telling people they're an actual goddess? Gaze gone somewhat more wary than it had been ( considering she now is fairly sure she's in the presence of crazy ) the diminutive demoness's head whips to the side as a splash is heard off to the left. You hear that too? Sonni asks, voice going low and deadly as she stands and takes a defensive stance. Teeth peel back slow, revealing sharp fangs as a surprisingly deep rumble spills from between partly-opened jaws.

The little red beast seemed to increase her guard, the way she looked at Volcan gave her a sense of great irritation. Did she dare doubt her words? Iblis claimed she was demon and dragon- an interesting mix. But her small host seemed to indeed contain the burning fires of hell and wrath. So be it- Volcan would not dispute her claim. From the side of them, something moved in the water, a splash close by their patch of land. Ember gaze raked over the murky water, looked through the patches of algae, trying to spot whatever it may be. The goddess sighed a bit in relief as a large swamp snake- an andaconda, she thought- slithered onto the land patch and sat, disregarding the two lionesses. Volcan turned her gaze back to Iblis, a small smile of relief, "Just a sna-" her works were cut short with a startled snarl as a massive reptile erupted from the water, grabbing the snake in its jaws. The conda hissed in fury, trying to wrap itself around the croc in defense, the bigger armored lizard rolling over and over in the shallow murky mud, spraying the muck every which way. The goddess scrambled back- a crocidilian twice the size of even her was much too dangerous for either the goddess or the demon. "Fuck!! Go!" she said, splashing into the water the opposite way, wading away from the chaos, hoping Iblis would follow for her own safety.

A very un-dignified yelp escapes the demoness as a massive crocodilian erupts after the snake, so large that for a moment Sonni's mind freezes - every instinct in her screaming run the fuck away! as she stands rooted for precious seconds. Volcan's words snap her out of it, and, snapping up the plant she'd come here for, the diminutive demon scrambles after her companion. Muscled body works hard to catch up to the midnight goddess, terror flooding the beast's veins as an aggressive splash sounds behind them. Not looking back, she simply continues running - desperate to get the fuck out of here before that big ass crocodile catches up with them.

The goddess wasnt sure how long they ran, she just heard the splashing of the red demoness behind her, and the massive slap of the crocs tail as it went back into the water. She had fought some questionable battles in her lifetime, including against a bear- but a crocodile was another thing. Their was no way even her dagger-like claws could get through their armored skin. And little did they know the crocodile stared after them for a while, confusion on its bumpy face. Volcan finally came to a stop on a patch of muddy land, mud caked up to her chest from the splashing. She turned her head back to peer at the little rose trailing her, her voice breathless. "You alright?"
