There were a lot of things Hecuba was prepared to handle. She had been raised from infancy to wear a crown, but the lessons had been in diplomats and how to weigh the good of the many against the life of a few. It was schooling in rhetoric, in being able to soundly make her own decisions and be confident in them for years to come. Hecuba learned how to battle, learned combat strategy, learned all the essentials that would be expected of her as queen. What no one could teach her, however, was how it felt to be separated from her daughters by so many miles she physically ached. Everything had happened so quickly; before she knew it, they were refugees seeking home somewhere new. Hecuba could only hope her girls were intelligent enough to find their own paths, no matter how much she wished to rush off and find them. They were strong, they were capable -- she had no doubt they would succeed wherever their hearts guided them.

Her heart tended to guide her towards the ocean. Drakon knew that, so as she strolled beside him and breathed in the familiar, briny air, she couldn't help but smile. Although there was a distinct lack of energy in her happiness, Hecuba still nuzzled affectionately against her husband's cheek in gratitude. "Thank you," she murmured, heaving a sigh as she moved to let the water lap gently at her toes.
