Happy 2021 to all! Big thank you for hanging out and being awesome for the first two-ish months of the site. It's been fun so far, looking forwards to a lot this year! If you haven't seen, after a delay, the last day of the advent can be claimed now (here). You have three choices for your last advent prize including a second chance at a creature pass. That's right we have creatures coming to Aesseldar now! Be sure to check the announcement for any rule clarifications if you're interested. Last big bit of news we do have our light layout "in the mist" ready to be used. There will still be tweaks and color changes coming in the next week or so by the fantastic dusk so don't be afraid if things look a little different.

Congratulations to Zay for winning the pride raffle with Runar! Welcome our new pride, Adamo Autumna! Don't forget to keep posting in the advent to claim your awesome prizes, and within the next few days you'll see some additional posts cropping up in the ooc areas. We'd love some feedback on the site and will be adding an area for feedback and suggestions. We will also be adding a thread to post all your open threads. Another fantastic surprise is that Koafox (some of you may know her as Miranda from other sites) has said we are welcome to use their table switcher plugin. As soon as I get the files we will be integrating that into the site for everyone to enjoy!

TWO news posts back to back my oh my stuff must be brewing! We wanted to let everyone know that the third pride slot has opened. Unlike the other slots we wanted to give everyone a chance to go for it as well, so we'll be raffling it! In order to enter the raffle please DM an admin or the Eoin account with your OOC and which character you'd like to enter the raffle with. The only requirement that has to be met is that the character must be 2 years of age or older (meaning that number of posts and feathers doesn't matter). So get your entries in, the more the merrier as we head into the new year! The other exciting news is that our neutral/lighter colored layout will be out by the end of the year, thanks to the lovely dusk!

Thank you so much everyone for a fantastic first month opening. We wanted to thank you all and let you know that we've decided to extend the grand opening bonuses for one more week, so you can bring in your first three characters free through 12/11! In other news our first contests have started and we couldn't be more excited! You may participate in the following, if you haven't already partaken: Advent Calendar, Superlatives, Advertising Contest, OTMs, and the Writing Contests. We'll be releasing another update soon with some super fun surprises, but some of Eoin's events have drawn to an end and it appears some new boards may start popping up! Expect to see more of Eoin, as well as some adjustment to the event threads, for some of the future boards as well!

11/28/2020 Staff
As we bring another week to close we'd like to welcome everyone to participate in our first contest! The Advertising contest is up and provides some really great rewards, as well as participation rewards! Coming soon are the first set of OTMs and superlatives, a writing contest, a sneak peak at our more refined skills system, and a few other small updates. Happy weekend everyone!

11/19/2020 Staff
Thank you everyone for having joined us so far for our site opening and help us grow our community. We have had so many wonderful suggestions, and while we are processing some things and working on the skills, we wanted to let you all know that the OTMs and superlatives are coming! Keep an eye out soon for those. Also it appears that Eoin has been wandering around Aesseldar and may be up to no good... best get checking on his apperances for some good old fashion fun, and maybe even a sweet surprise!

Welcome everyone to the grand opening of Aesseldar! We are excited to open our doors and build a community with all of you. As we being our journey together we would love you all to read through the grand opening thread, and remember that while we're transitioning into the start of this, we still have a few fantastic surprises coming. Our skill system is underway and we hope to have that out by the end of November, we would also love to have you all in the Discord with us and welcome any and all suggestions and feedback to help us improve the site! We have a number of things still to come, including a lighter colored layout, accessories in the shop, and would love to remind everyone that the top right series of three vertical dashes will open up the sidebar. In order to reference what IC month it is you will find the calendar link in the sidebar. Happy posting!

12/15/2020 Eoin
With three new terrains open and a third pride staking a claim once more, our mischievous deity Eoin appears to be up to no good again. The quake that cracked open the mountain and closed it once more was felt around the lands, and three new terrains popped open. Tryphosa Shore now has an Atoll sub-board, and there is a Desert and a Rift board. Several more will be coming... but first Eoin will make an impression.

11/17/2020 Eoin
The rainforest trembles, as if fighting back against those who dare to occupy it. The lands of Aesseldar are still only half-tamed, unfettered and unwilling to give way to any aspiring King, any growing empire. And just as quick as King Barnabas came to lay claim to it did it begin to push back, forcing his fledgling pride out with an unforgiving downpour, and a bitter resentment of the creatures that dwell within. With one pride felled, it leaves the opportunity for another to rise from the ashes.

11/4/2020 Eoin
It happened on a hot, humid night. No one there to witness it. Somewhere, surely, it could be heard. The start of a crack. The sound vibrating from mountain top to valley dips. It was a long and dreadful noise. Somewhere in the mountains, somehow, one of the peaks had collapsed. An impassible tower of sharpened points- gone. Snow, with the hidden rocks from the destruction, slid down the slopes that were formed by ages. A wave of white forced outward to cover all below. At first it is still much too dangerous to traverse. But with time the new ground settles and with it comes- a pass. On the other side awaits a land untouched by the curious paws. The lands of Aesseldar have been revealved and somewhere down below three pridelands sit empty, awaiting for eager travelers to start staking their claims. Please refer to the grand opening announcement for information on how to claim a pride slot and fully customize it, since there are some grand opening bonuses or exceptions that are not referenced in the guidebook! We would also love to let everyone know that any official in-character news that gets posted in this "in-character" section of the layout is going to be considered common knowledge for any character in-game. Consider it like an in-character bulletin board! We will keep it updated with relevant and applicable information and hope it helps inspire your plots.

Spring Y11
With spring the clouds begin to disperse and the warmer weather begins and new life blooms. With new lands having been discovered there is a plethora of places for the lions to explore and yet somehow that mischievous site deity never seems to stop bringing the surprises, some of which include occasional inclement weathers. Temps varying between 45°-80°F (7°-27°C).

Exhaustion. It had been gnawing on his muscles long after they had begun their journey. At first it was the entire family but along the way their family slowly became just him and Hecuba. It was heartbreaking not knowing where your children were and Drakon knew that his wife would not be taking it well so, once they had arrived to this new land - though he was exhausted - the brute of a man had set out to search for the one thing he knew Hecuba would like to see; hopefully. He had searched and searched and finally found it, leaving only to gather his wife and bring her to the shorelines of an ocean. It was no home but it was a start right?

There were a lot of things Hecuba was prepared to handle. She had been raised from infancy to wear a crown, but the lessons had been in diplomats and how to weigh the good of the many against the life of a few. It was schooling in rhetoric, in being able to soundly make her own decisions and be confident in them for years to come. Hecuba learned how to battle, learned combat strategy, learned all the essentials that would be expected of her as queen. What no one could teach her, however, was how it felt to be separated from her daughters by so many miles she physically ached. Everything had happened so quickly; before she knew it, they were refugees seeking home somewhere new. Hecuba could only hope her girls were intelligent enough to find their own paths, no matter how much she wished to rush off and find them. They were strong, they were capable -- she had no doubt they would succeed wherever their hearts guided them.

Her heart tended to guide her towards the ocean. Drakon knew that, so as she strolled beside him and breathed in the familiar, briny air, she couldn't help but smile. Although there was a distinct lack of energy in her happiness, Hecuba still nuzzled affectionately against her husband's cheek in gratitude. "Thank you," she murmured, heaving a sigh as she moved to let the water lap gently at her toes.

Though he didn’t show much emotion, Drakon knew that his wife was hurting. Knew that he was hurting. It took a toll on him that he was afraid to show to the world. Not knowing where his children were was something he never wanted to think about and yet; here he was doing just that. He rumbled a purr at her affection and rubbed his cheek against her’s as amber jewels watched her gray form leave his side and go towards the ocean’s edge. No matter what he did right now, he knew that being here at her side was going to be the biggest thing he could do. If not the only thing. Drakon would be the shoulder she could lean on until she got back onto her feet again.

Slowly, Drakon moved closer to Hecuba’s side and would sit down next to her as the water licked at his toes. ”Everything will be alright..” It was really the only thing he could think to say. Even to her thank you. He had to be the rock, the stone cold lion that Hecuba had grown to love right now and not let anyone see his weaknesses. Even after they both healed, if they ever did.

If there was anything Hecuba was grateful for, it was that she had not escaped alone. There was something to be said about the two of them being so inseparable in the recent weeks, almost able to feel the tension building in the atmosphere around them. Their enemies had come from unexpected places, brutal beasts the likes of which she had never seen before. Even as a scarred warrior herself, one who wasn't afraid of a little bloodshed, Hecuba had been fearful. She still was, but at least she had him -- her rock, her foundation. The stony lioness looked up to him as he murmured those soothing words, promising everything would be okay in the end. "Yes, it will be. It's just going to take a while." Forever she would grieve for the unknown fates of her daughters, but shit, they had known the possibilities by returning home. Hecuba and Drakon had prepared them for an attack, had mentioned there was a chance they wouldn't be able to save them. She was just.. bitter that the caution had been necessary at all. "Maybe a fresh start is what we needed." Not that they had much of an option and that point.

Take a while. Those words echoed in his ears like a bell. It was heartbreaking really and Drakon knew that at one point, this would hurt him. But right now he couldn't let it show, for Hecuba's sake. He had to be strong. And right now that was what he was going to be. "Maybe." And this time maybe he won't make himself known as a monster. Yea.. That wasn't going to happen. Eventually this land would know him as such and this time he wouldn't hide it. Let the Dragon be free he would say and that's what he would do. "What do you think of making our home here?" Would she want an ocean view again?

Hecuba was not so foolish to believe her husband lacked any feelings towards his now five missing children. She had seen him grieve over the eldest when they refused to return home in an act of petty defiance, had seen the pain in his eyes when they realized no one else had made it. To some, he would look callous, but Hecuba knew better. The iron lioness had seen him at his best, at his worst, felt his kiss and his wrath. If there was anyone on the planet who knew there was something more beyond his stoic facade, it was Hecuba. She couldn't force him into talking, however, and allowed him the freedom to deal with his emotions as he saw fit. For now.

Hecuba cuddled close to him, almost afraid that he might disappear if she weren't touching him in some way. He spoke of home, of making this place their new beginning. Truth be told, the lioness had no clue what she wanted anymore. "You are my home. As long as I am with you, I will be happy. I do love the ocean, but what about you? What do you love? A forest, a mountain? Where would you be happiest?" He had abandoned his desire for the family home in order to stay on the beach -- for her -- and it was only fair to return the favor.

Her touch had been what kept him going these days. Drakon feared if he had lost Hecuba then he would be lost himself. She was his other half. His missing piece and she had been the one that had been able to keep the dragon chained and one to let it lose. Even still his heart ached for what he had done to her out of rage and vowed he'd never do it again. Her words echoed in his ears and Drakon rumbled a purr from his chest, however, whatever he had longed for the beast would put family first. "I grew up in a wasteland, a desert with an Oasis near by. Even here though I won't find it and will need to think what will be best for any Tollaire's we find. Not everyone is suited to live in that kind of environment."

A wasteland was no one’s ideal homestead except Drakon, she imagined. Well, the exception of his mother, of course. Although Hecuba certainly wouldn’t have been enthralled with living in a desert, she would gladly do so if it sang to her husband’s heart.. for a while, she imagined. An oasis certainly sounded appealing and isolated, but how long would such a place hold her affection? Not too terribly long, but again, if it was what Drakon wanted, she would go.

Fortunately, that didn’t seem to be the case.

He spoke of the other Tollaires, of reuniting them under the same banner once more. Hecuba found it curious, she supposed, how eager he was to throw himself back into the depths of leadership. A home for his family, sans children.. she wondered how much of his enthusiasm was simply an attempt to drown out his feelings on the matter. "Then here will be fine, at least until the others make their feelings known on the matter. It is a beautiful place," she conceded, smiling up at him softly.

Perhaps it was his way of coping with things and the loss of his children but it wasn't something he'd admit. So when she agreed to stay here on the shoreline then Drakon would smile and brush his nose against her cheek. "If I find any Tollaire then I'll make sure to tell you. I do know I need to find Arsynia." Right now she was leading them, even if he didn't like that per say. But right now was not the time to fight against family.

Other Tollaire. Hecuba had to admit she would have been content to have her Tollaire and not bother with the rest. Geralt had proven time and time again to be a raging disappointment, and the other women she had met seemed flaky. More than anything, Hecuba didn’t want them to interfere with their life together -- all she wanted was him, her dragon. Fuck the rest of the family, fuck Smaug, fuck any scaled cretin that tried to snake their way into his head and distract him from what mattered.

Hecuba. Hecuba mattered. Their missing daughters mattered and nothing else. Not the Tollaire “legacy” or whatever the fuck it was -- which was nothing more than a bunch of fools puffing themselves up, belching puffs of smoke, she’d learned. “Don’t feel obligated. I’ll just stay here, you do what you need to do.” Whatever that was. If he needed to go parade around for his family, so be it; Hecuba was not so desperate she needed the approval of mythical beasts.
