Curiosity is what killed the cat right? Well it was what drove her now, pushing her to leave the safety of the lake and out into the lands of Aesseldar. It took time, wandering through the lands around the lake until finally reaching the spot that had caught her attention. At the base of the southern edge of the mountain she stared, standing at the start of a path that stretched up, winding along the mountains side. Now that she was closer, closer to what had caught her attention she realized just how tall the mountains were. But she was sure there was something up at the top, there just had to be right? Why else would there be a path that lead up the side of the mountain? It made no sense for there to be nothing up there.


But first, before she began up, she decided to check out the base some first. Mud-dipped limbs carrying the scarred female along the base of the mountain. Taking note of the foliage that grew there, eventually coming upon the river's edge that ran to the base and stopped – or so it seemed – and a frown crossed her moon kissed face. It made no sense to her, and as she stood there studying the river she couldn't help but think of other things that made no sense in the world.

The obsidian woman slunk against the riverside, hugging its edge like a precarious ledge. She didn't even glance at the water, rather, her piercing ember gaze stayed ahead, for she followed one scent in particular- one of her children, one who hadn't visited her in a few days. She was three years old now, but the fire goddess was unwilling to let go of her offspring completely. The scent was faint, well faded- she had passed through here days ago. If she lost the trail, she would turn back and head home to the children who loyally stayed within a few miles of her. This girl- she wanted to explore. Volcan was not against this, she had just expected her home sooner. Now she worried for her child's life.

The mountain loomed nearby, and wondered if her precious pale babe had headed up it- but instead the scent went forward, and stop that trail was a mud and snow lady, a bit smaller than herself. Volcan lifted an eyebrow at how she seemed irritated and confused at nothing and everything. Perhaps she was thinking of a poem..... Well, Volcan had made that face when contemplating how to rid herself of her previous mates. That was pretty poetic. The amber streaked lioness swaggered forward, her sensuous hips swaying, and a flirtatious and vague smile on her face. "Why hello there, what brings such a lovely lady like you to be here all alone, seemingly..... Hm... Angry, about something?" she guessed.

It was a puzzle to her where the water went, for rivers had currents and currents came from somewhere, so for the river to just end made no sense to her. It connected to the ocean so the current didnt come from the ocean, rivers drained into the oceans from what she knew. Yet she didnt have much time to think about this as anothers approach was heard. Scarred face turned towards the other as they approached, noticing her approach and made sure to keep her face blank in response to it. While it was interesting, she would wait to see how this went before dishing out any judgement.. Not that she'd ever tell anyone her judgement.


"Curiousity is what brings me here. Angry? Not really. More so contemplative. What brings you here?" She questioned in return, noting the females orange stripes that nearly looked like fire. She thought it was interesting, though she did not comment on this. Instead she turned to face the other female directly, giving her full attention as she had been taught to do. "I cant figure out where the river goes." She commented, nodding towards the river as she mentioned it.

As she turned to face the ember lady, she noticed the scars on her face. Unruly? Not at all. In fact it was a tale to all she had lived through. Volcan found a scarred lion, especially a lady, quite attractive, actually.
What brings you here?
Volcan thought carefully. Telling her the truth in vague honestly would hurt nothing in this situation. "Im following the trail of my daughter- it has been long sense she returned to where I rest. I worry for her safety." she explained. Nothing hurtful of a mother caring for her children.
I cant figure out where the river goes.
Volcan's curled ears flicked flat in thought. Everyone knee it went to the ocean- so surely she meant the other way? "Rivers come from tiny streams. The streams turn to creeks and roar into rivers. I guess you could say most of it comes from the springs beneath the earth, or uphill where water is fed down. But always it starts from somewhere small." she concluded. Or at least, thats what she noticed during her long lived travels here to these lands. "Your one that gets lost deep in thought, it seems to my eyes. Im Volcan, and you, scarred maiden?"

She was not ashamed of her scars, as they proved she had survived what others had not. She survived a life under a cruel male, who took his anger out on those in his pride. Had taken his anger out on her. It proved she was a survivor, a fighter. So she kept her head high, proud. Even now as she stood there talking to the other woman. Ears flicking forth as she listened to the others response about what brought her here. She understood wondering where a child was, she didnt know where her daughter was, didnt know if she was even alive. "I understand the worry over a child. I am sure she will return soon though, if she knows where you rest?" She attempted to soothe. "I was...separated from my daughter. I do not know where she is, or if she is even alive."


She had not seen her daughter in a year or more. Luckily the subject changed then and the other woman explained what she knew about rivers and she nodded. "But where would it go here?" She questioned, pointing towards the water that seemed to end at a solid wall of the mountain. The others comment about her getting lost in her thoughts was issued a nod as she finally settled, rump resting upon the cool earth beside the river. "I suppose I do." She offered a half chuckle. "Pleasure to meet you, Volcan. I am Brighid Maat."

So she had lost a child. Volcan wanted too feel for her, and she did, a little. But being concieted, how much she cared was limited- though sbe understood the ache of the loss of a child. Her last litter consisted of two tiny, sickly cubs- one severely deformed, dying a month after its birth, and the other small and albino. The obsidian goddess followed the motion of the mud lady's pointed paw. "I imagine it travels under the mountain, perhaps. Either to the other side, or into a pocket in the ground. We may never know." she said, curled ears popping up. "And what a lovely name, Brighid. Where i come from thats the name of a warrior woman who conquered armies, and died in the glory of her last battle. An honorable death, indeed." she said, also settling against the damp ground.

No mention was made of children again and she silently agrees to let the subject drop. She missed her daughter, well both her daughters. Even though her eldest was the result of a rape, she loved her daughters dearly. Still, it mattered not now as both of them were gone and she could only dream of the day she was reunited with them. Be it while she lived or breathed, or in death. Ears flicked as Volcan concluded that the river probably went underground and she figured that made sense. With the mystery of the river solved – or as solved as it'd be for now – she turned her full attention on Volcan.

"I suppose that makes sense." She concurred about the river, letting the subject drop at that. As volcan mentioned a warrior woman with the same name as hers in the lands she came from she couldn't help but smile slightly. She herself had never backed down from a fight, but she didn't go looking for them. Not since watching her father be murdered before her eyes – though when she was younger she wanted to kill the man who killed her father – and scarred her for life. One does not simply get over that. "An honorable death indeed. I am named after the goddess, Brigid." Her family was Celtic in nature after all, worshipping the gods and goddesses. "I take it by your comment you are not from here either. Have you been here long? I've only arrived days ago." And she was searching for her family. Both her blood family and the family she considered her own as she was devoted to them.

Volcans face stayed passive, keeping the hint of flirtatiousness as they continued on their conversation. Soon the talk of the rivers origins ended, and the obsidian lady took in the meaning behind the name her company was given. "I came from a land that was destroyed by a mountain taht benched fire- a volcano, if you will- a hundred years ago. When i was born, the foolish people of my tribe belived I was bron to bring them fortune and prosperity from their damnation of that event, because I bear the cracked markings of it. Hence, why I am named Volcan. I have been here for only a few moon cycles, with my hoard of children. They are all no longer cubs now, but I will always see them as such. Regardless, we are here for a purpose. I aim to create the empire I have always dreamed of, and this labd is perfectly suitable to build one. And since you have not come from here, whats your story?" she asked. Quickly ember orbs flicked towards tiny movement as a frilled lizard attempted to make its way to the water the escape the danger, but black shiny claws embedded themselves in its leathery skin and Volcan pulled the creature towards her, now limp. She ripped and ate half of it, and offered the other half to her company. Might as well speak over a snack.

Silently she listens as Volcan gives the own meaning behind her name, her only reaction is surprise when she mentions the lands being destroyed by a volcano about a hundred years ago, and her being named Volcan because she looked as though she had cracks exposing lava. "Well that is a better story behind your name than just being named after a goddess." She chuckled, though it was foolish and kinda sad that Volcans pride had put it on her to make things better simply by how she looked. She does not mention this though but listens as Volcan continues about her children and them being there for a purpose before she asks what her story was. Dark brown eyes watch as Volcan easily kills the frilled lizard before taking her half and eating it with a grateful nod. Only once it was finished did she take a breath to begin her story.


"I was born in a land far from here, though it is ruined now. Tragedy struck early in the death of my parents though I found a family in the Tollaires." A family within whom she found the love of her life. "When I was older after having my cubs, the lands were destroyed and we had to flee. I was separated from the Tollaire and taken in by another pride. As my daughter grew I did not like how the king looked at her so I told her to flee. As you can tell, he was not happy with me when he caught me. " She gestured to the scars that littered her face and body. "I came here seeking a fresh start and perhaps foolishly hoping to find my daughter." She had caught her scent some way aways from these lands but had lost it, and hoped that here was where her daughter was.

Volcan listened to her story with growing flames in her gullet. The audacity of the vile man..... "How foul. If i could, or knew who he may be, I would drain his blood at one of the altars those foolish people made for me. Truly, i would- for I have found myself enjoying your company. I understand the painful hardships of losing your precious ones, for I had one that died. I had them for only a month, not for as long as you had yours, and the pain I felt when he stopped breathing.... It was like no other. Maybe.... Maybe I can offer you a fresh start, and my assistance of finding both of our daughters. You could follow me, to help me build the fair empire I always imagined. Of course, there will be the authority of ranks and such- but nobody will be treated unfairly." she said, placing one paw gently against Brighid's shoulder, "What do you say, lady Brighid? Would you like to help me create a fair kingdom?"
