Silva

A Latin American family deeply intertwined with myth and witchcraft. According to legend, Ernesto Silva was but a boy when he encountered his first monster in the woods. It should’ve been the child’s end, thrust as he was into the merciless jaws of the Chupacabra. But what Ernesto didn’t know what that his mother’s lover, Don Fernando, had sought to kill him. And when that devilish man was about to raise his paw, to pluck the boy away from mortal life as we know it, the Chupacabra lifted its monstrous head and sunk its fangs into Don Fernando. It was only then that Ernesto was able to escape with his life.

From then on, the Silva family has believed not only in the existence of monsters, but in existence of magic! Potions are their lifeforce, spells and incantations their way of life. And dreams are, more often than not, bits and pieces of what is to come.

Ernesto met María Elena, the pride’s moonchild. It is said that long ago, the moon struck a deal with a gypsy woman. She’d give the mortal love in exchange for the child she’d bear. And this child was born as pale as ivory, causing the gypsy woman’s lover to murder her in a fit of jealousy. The abandoned child was left crying on the moor, but the moon found him. And every time the moon wanes, it’s because she’s making a cradle to rock the cub to sleep.

(The Moonchild aspect is based on the song “Hijo de la Luna” by Mecano. Go give it a listen!)

But what they haven’t told you, is that the moon, now that she’s a mother, grieves for the children that are lost. So, when a white cub is born, it’s because the moon has slipped down and given back one of her sons or daughters. Either because the parents have failed to conceive, or lost past litters, or because the moon saw that a child was dead in the womb.

María Elena was one of these returned daughters of the moon, and so she was loved dearly. Her parents never did approve her union with that wacky family. But it seems that her real mother, la Luna, did. For ever since their union, the Silva has been blessed with numerous moonchildren. All happy, healthy and highly powerful.

Now, we must come to the end of our story. As you can imagine, seeing monsters in dreams doesn’t exactly make for the best conversation starter at the local watering hole. The Silva family has been chased away from almost every territory imaginable, so now they’ve become very secretive. They live mostly as traveling merchants, reading fortunes and telling stories. Some of them have taken a more medicinal route, while others focus on incantations and runes.

Adoption Guidelines:

- Pelts are usually warm tones! Think golds and browns. Sunrise, Hazelnut, Acorn and even Red are good pelt colors to choose from.

- On the subject of pelts, you CAN have your character be a moonchild. Keep in mind moonchildren, or hijos de la luna, can only happen once in each litter and hopefully separated by a couple generations. Moonchildren will have a special standing in the family and shall be mentored by their elders in all things witchcraft and spirits.

- Builds are usually on the medium to small side for both genders. Though any mutation is welcome!

- NAMING CONVENTIONS: the Silva family follows Latin American naming conventions, meaning that the cubs will take both their father and mother’s name. The father’s name is placed first and the mother’s name second, ex: Ernesto Miguel Silva Castillo. As you can see from the example, middle names are also very common!

- The Silva’s are a very tightknit, loving family. But they’re also very diverse! You can have the skeptic, the loner, the party girl, the one who hates their family. All I ask if that they don’t go too rogue or become too much of a bloodthirsty killer. I’m always here to discuss ideas!
