Happy 2021 to all! Big thank you for hanging out and being awesome for the first two-ish months of the site. It's been fun so far, looking forwards to a lot this year! If you haven't seen, after a delay, the last day of the advent can be claimed now (here). You have three choices for your last advent prize including a second chance at a creature pass. That's right we have creatures coming to Aesseldar now! Be sure to check the announcement for any rule clarifications if you're interested. Last big bit of news we do have our light layout "in the mist" ready to be used. There will still be tweaks and color changes coming in the next week or so by the fantastic dusk so don't be afraid if things look a little different.

Congratulations to Zay for winning the pride raffle with Runar! Welcome our new pride, Adamo Autumna! Don't forget to keep posting in the advent to claim your awesome prizes, and within the next few days you'll see some additional posts cropping up in the ooc areas. We'd love some feedback on the site and will be adding an area for feedback and suggestions. We will also be adding a thread to post all your open threads. Another fantastic surprise is that Koafox (some of you may know her as Miranda from other sites) has said we are welcome to use their table switcher plugin. As soon as I get the files we will be integrating that into the site for everyone to enjoy!

TWO news posts back to back my oh my stuff must be brewing! We wanted to let everyone know that the third pride slot has opened. Unlike the other slots we wanted to give everyone a chance to go for it as well, so we'll be raffling it! In order to enter the raffle please DM an admin or the Eoin account with your OOC and which character you'd like to enter the raffle with. The only requirement that has to be met is that the character must be 2 years of age or older (meaning that number of posts and feathers doesn't matter). So get your entries in, the more the merrier as we head into the new year! The other exciting news is that our neutral/lighter colored layout will be out by the end of the year, thanks to the lovely dusk!

Thank you so much everyone for a fantastic first month opening. We wanted to thank you all and let you know that we've decided to extend the grand opening bonuses for one more week, so you can bring in your first three characters free through 12/11! In other news our first contests have started and we couldn't be more excited! You may participate in the following, if you haven't already partaken: Advent Calendar, Superlatives, Advertising Contest, OTMs, and the Writing Contests. We'll be releasing another update soon with some super fun surprises, but some of Eoin's events have drawn to an end and it appears some new boards may start popping up! Expect to see more of Eoin, as well as some adjustment to the event threads, for some of the future boards as well!

11/28/2020 Staff
As we bring another week to close we'd like to welcome everyone to participate in our first contest! The Advertising contest is up and provides some really great rewards, as well as participation rewards! Coming soon are the first set of OTMs and superlatives, a writing contest, a sneak peak at our more refined skills system, and a few other small updates. Happy weekend everyone!

11/19/2020 Staff
Thank you everyone for having joined us so far for our site opening and help us grow our community. We have had so many wonderful suggestions, and while we are processing some things and working on the skills, we wanted to let you all know that the OTMs and superlatives are coming! Keep an eye out soon for those. Also it appears that Eoin has been wandering around Aesseldar and may be up to no good... best get checking on his apperances for some good old fashion fun, and maybe even a sweet surprise!

11/4/2020 Staff
Welcome everyone to the grand opening of Aesseldar! We are excited to open our doors and build a community with all of you. As we being our journey together we would love you all to read through the grand opening thread, and remember that while we're transitioning into the start of this, we still have a few fantastic surprises coming. Our skill system is underway and we hope to have that out by the end of November, we would also love to have you all in the Discord with us and welcome any and all suggestions and feedback to help us improve the site! We have a number of things still to come, including a lighter colored layout, accessories in the shop, and would love to remind everyone that the top right series of three vertical dashes will open up the sidebar. In order to reference what IC month it is you will find the calendar link in the sidebar. Happy posting!

12/15/2020 Eoin
With three new terrains open and a third pride staking a claim once more, our mischievous deity Eoin appears to be up to no good again. The quake that cracked open the mountain and closed it once more was felt around the lands, and three new terrains popped open. Tryphosa Shore now has an Atoll sub-board, and there is a Desert and a Rift board. Several more will be coming... but first Eoin will make an impression.

11/17/2020 Eoin
The rainforest trembles, as if fighting back against those who dare to occupy it. The lands of Aesseldar are still only half-tamed, unfettered and unwilling to give way to any aspiring King, any growing empire. And just as quick as King Barnabas came to lay claim to it did it begin to push back, forcing his fledgling pride out with an unforgiving downpour, and a bitter resentment of the creatures that dwell within. With one pride felled, it leaves the opportunity for another to rise from the ashes.

11/4/2020 Eoin
It happened on a hot, humid night. No one there to witness it. Somewhere, surely, it could be heard. The start of a crack. The sound vibrating from mountain top to valley dips. It was a long and dreadful noise. Somewhere in the mountains, somehow, one of the peaks had collapsed. An impassible tower of sharpened points- gone. Snow, with the hidden rocks from the destruction, slid down the slopes that were formed by ages. A wave of white forced outward to cover all below. At first it is still much too dangerous to traverse. But with time the new ground settles and with it comes- a pass. On the other side awaits a land untouched by the curious paws. The lands of Aesseldar have been revealved and somewhere down below three pridelands sit empty, awaiting for eager travelers to start staking their claims. Please refer to the grand opening announcement for information on how to claim a pride slot and fully customize it, since there are some grand opening bonuses or exceptions that are not referenced in the guidebook! We would also love to let everyone know that any official in-character news that gets posted in this "in-character" section of the layout is going to be considered common knowledge for any character in-game. Consider it like an in-character bulletin board! We will keep it updated with relevant and applicable information and hope it helps inspire your plots.

Spring Y11
With spring the clouds begin to disperse and the warmer weather begins and new life blooms. With new lands having been discovered there is a plethora of places for the lions to explore and yet somehow that mischievous site deity never seems to stop bringing the surprises, some of which include occasional inclement weathers. Temps varying between 45°-80°F (7°-27°C).

CW: Death of parents - talk of death/harm/anxiety. (rundown: parents fall over the cliff)

The morning was starting right with their little family unit. They were heading to higher grounds to see how far the land would stretch beyond the horizon. Her father held her securely in his mouth as she dangled curled beneath his jaw. Her mother walked somberly behind them, nearly strangling a bit too far behind as it was. The sky was amber with a touch of Robin's egg blues and whites in the mixture. There was no cloud in the sky to taint the array of its flow. Suddenly along one of their walks going further up the stony path, there was a slight sound of something crumbling, a loud gasp, the sudden halt of her father's steps forward. The sound of a rock dislodging off the base as something sharp scrapped against it for footing. The sound of her father's heart beating wildling behind her back as she was tucked to his mane and throat as he turned. The sight was something that would start to burn into her eyes. Her mother was over the ledge of the mountain misty path, and her father had stammered still for a moment deciding possibly what to do.

It had been what felt like mere hours since she had watched her mother take a misstep on the misty mountain ledge when really it had been minutes, and she watched in horror as her father stood and placed their daughter, she herself, along the rocky edge away from the misshapen ledge her mother now dangled from. She couldn't fathom what was happening, only that it happened so damn fast. He held her mother for what seemed like an entire day before she had slipped from his grasp and then all sounds became void of anything. Like she was underwater and viewing everything in slow motion.

Father had come quickly, he smiled and said something to her endearingly, she looked at his eyes - full of sorrow, and yet there was no light there. His toes were shaking and his chest was rapid. Moments later he would make his way to the same cliffside and she watched in absolute horror as her father followed after her mother beyond where she could see. Again her ears had picked up no sounds - and she waited with bated breath for the return of her father clutching his mother to his back.

But as the hours passed on, and the sun started to create shadows along the rocky slope, the more her ears started to allow some sound back to her drums. There was ...no sight of her parents. And the cool air blowing from the pits below crested over the ledge chilling her tiny frail body. Still, no sight of her parents. But she couldn't muster the strength to uproot herself from where her father had lain her safely on the ledge facing where claw marks and broken stones were left remaining. Soon, and very soon, the moon would start to creep along the face of the heavens, inching closer to where the sun normally graced all life from above. The sky went from a beautiful amber and plum color to now a cherry bomb of colorations. Blue, Dark plum, Sanguine reds, Golds like a summer flower and or an autumn leaf. Then it dragged in opaque colorations of dark blues and violets mixed with slated greys and blacks. Tiny white speckles started to glow not shy from where the sun had just been.

She was alone under the coming night sky. Unsure of what had become of both her parents or now, even for the sake of arguments what would happen to her. Her body laid curled tightly backed up against the stone wall behind her, a wall as tall as an elephant as it towered creating a dull shadow to form over her body. No sounds left her golden lips as she started to shiver, not from what had happened before her eyes, but due to the cold that now was slowly swallowing her whole.

The stench of death was strong. Too much so for the brute to simply ignore. He had followed it until it became unbearably strong. Though even in his search, he was unable to locate the source. It was an obvious lion in scent and he could only hope that it was not one of his kin. As darkness consumed the sky, he would find that his mission needed to be paused for the lack of visibility. The brute let out a grunt as he turned and shifted on the snow-capped ledge.

There was something dark against a far wall along the slope he had managed to descend. A sharp wall face was duly noted as he eased by it. One could take an ugly tumble down it... However, he is steady in steps as he reached the flattened place that was only sheltered by the tall rock face. The bundle below held no smell of the death he had come after. Instead, he could just make out the faintest movement due to a shiver.

He wasn't sure why he did it. There was nothing 'fatherly' to the beast. Yet he found himself inching forward. Careful as he tried to not frighten the ball of fur. If able at all, he would merely come to sit near. Perhaps enough so that he could give off some sort of heat. "I won't hurt you." In fact, he was still quite unsure what to do with his newfound discovery. Other than an attempt to warm it.

The scent of death was not what caught the molten hued lion's attention. Blood, when fresh would do so. However death and decay was of less interest to him as it signaled the fun and interesting part had already passed. However when he caught wind of a familiar pride related scent, this was enough to draw him in closer.

Following the tracks located had taken him across some less than secure terrain but only served to make him more curious until he was in position to approach the other male. Who seemed quite focused on something-
....
....
...
"Is that a child?" his silken voice came out calm and slightly softer than usual, gaze searching as his steps slowed and a thought occurred. The smell....and absence of an angry parent so far....did not bode well. A glance is swiftly cast behind him, at the edge where from the scent of new rot seemed to emanate stronger, claw marks hanging at the periapice a morbid signpost. Swiftly his gaze returned to Drazhan with a sort of uncharacteristic somberness.

Baby was barely there, consciously that is, her eyes were glued to the scene of the accident. She waited and waited until the moon was starting to make her eyes water, she wanted to look up at it like she did for so many nights before now, but she knew if she did that meant she'd miss her parents climbing back up..right? Her body as tiny as it was, shivered against the stones and rock slope behind her, her body had instinctively backed up to try and calm the cold off her little body but nothing was helping so far. Well, that was until suddenly a blast of warmth came to her side, it wasn't direct but it was near. Her heart thundered till the point she began to see white flashes in her vision. "is that a cub?" ascent of more warmth could be felt but this one was not so close as the first. Her head shrunk down to the ground but her eyes were still glued ahead.

'if someone strange finds you - make yourself small like the deer in the fields...' she recalled an echo of her mother's advice. And thus she had squished her shivering frame to the ground. When the silence had come and she heard the echoing words of the first warmth 'i won't hurt you' call into her mind in repeat - she would finally speak. "M...m,mama.....p,p,op....poppa....they'll be back...they...he....poppa....went to..get momma ...." her words were small, tiny, and barely a sound as she spoke. Now her whole body shook like a tree in the winds, her ears littered atop her sunrise head as she felt the sting of tears from her eye ducts. Perhaps it was her soul that knew the outcome of her parents but her mind and heart were not daring to listen to what her soul had offered. That they were dead and that now she was alone with two large adult males near her, her own death could be right behind them. Swallowing harshly she took a labored breath in through her mouth with each shiver and shake. "The...They should........be back soon..." her face spun from a neutral unknowing expression to now one that held sorrow, pain, and fear for herself.

He hadn't noticed the drag of marks that lead over the edge he had to carefully move by. Not until his attention was removed from the cub and placed on Hunter as he approached. His gaze had followed after that of the brute's to find it. The scene he had missed in his own attempt to not fall victim to the ledge. He swallowed back what he knew even as he gave a short nod of his head to confirm what Hunter had spotted near him.

His attention was yanked back to the youth as the voice stuttered out. The sign of cold is evident in not only the shake of her body but her voice as well. Or perhaps it was the pain of the tragedy she had to bear witness to. Regardless, it forced him to shift closer. He dared another inch or two until he noticed she had only shrunk in on herself with no attempt to actually flee. That is when he sought to enclose her in the warmth of fur and mane at his chest.

"Shhh--" He tried to coax- or bide time for his mind to think. "Of course they will." Who was he to murder the last string of hope that the babe would cling to? He cut a stare to Hunter as if to silence whatever argument may arise from the small lie. "That is why my friend will stay here and wait for them-" he paused as his neck craned to stare down at the babe- if she remained in his embrace. "While I take you the rest of the way to find a meal and a nice bed."

"M...m,mama.....p,p,op....poppa....they'll be back...they...he....poppa....went to..get momma ...."
His lips pressed together slightly, uncharacteristic silence continuing as the sharp edge remains absent from his gaze while looking at the child with something close to pity or sympathy.

"of course they will."

His maw draws a hair tighter at the lie, the glance sent his way earning a slight headshake, a subtle signal of disapproval. Such lies might make it 'easier' to cope with the child in this moment, make the youth more agreeable. But it would make gaining closure harder later if the kid could not see the parents and know for certain they were gone. It wasn't even that someone was attempting to control his actions this time that gained his disapproval, but it was out of a desire not to frighten the cub that he remained quiet on the subject.

"To the lake?" he asked Drazhan softly, conforming as a thought occurs, something he would keep to himself for the moment. His gaze moves to the little one. "I won't leave without seeing them first. My name is Hunter. What's yours?"
