Dice Rolling Mechanics
Dice rolls are going to make the world go 'round in Aess! We hope that by letting you all control your in-game roll mechanics, it will be more fun and level the playing field for everyone to be able to enjoy across various different levels. Though these will go hand in hand with our skill trees, this is the first draft we would like to move forward with as the site opens. Dice rolls are strongly influenced by DND and thus we will also include critical success and failures!

These rolls will all be assigned by staff at the time of your application acceptance, and will be automatically updated as soon as you complete your character skill up!

Fighting
20 base dice roll for fighting, assignments begin as follows with modifiers:

Build
Goliath: D21
Large, Medium, Small: D20
Extra Small: D19
Micro: D17
Dwarf: D16

Age
Under 1: -4
Under 2: -3
Over 8: -3

Weight
30 pounds outside of build class: -1
More than 60 pounds outside of build class: -2

Critical Success
If your character rolls the highest number possible for their roll (say their dice are a d20, and they roll a 20) then that is considered a critical success! A critical success means that the roleplayer must then roll a d5 (!roll d5) for added damage!

Critical Failure
If your character rolls the lowest number possible for their roll (this is almost always a 1) then that is considered a critical failure! A critical failuremeans that the roleplayer must then roll a d5 (!roll d5) to see how much penalty damage is dealt to themselves!

As an added bonus, anyone that is posting in a fight does not need to adhere to the 100 word count minimum. We like to keep fight posts as simple as possible and do not want a post to deter from the fight itself. A final reminder is to please remember to post in the discord after every fight post you make!

Escaping
20 base dice for escaping.
Anyone attempting an escape in a thread or fight must roll in the discord for their success or failure, this is accomplished by rolling in the discord #escape-attempts channel.
In order to roll you must post what character is trying to escape from, in what thread, then post your roll.

If you are attempting to escape from a fight you can have 2 escape attempts, each time your character is unsuccessful at attempting their HP bar will go down according to whatever damage their opponent deals. If characters are blocked from escaping twice, by determination of dice roll, then they must either face their attacker and submit or fight back.

To roll: !roll d20

If 50% Chance:
Failure: 1-10
Success: 11-20

If 40% Chance:
Failure: 1-12
Success: 13-20

*If a character has not yet been engaged in battle but wishes to flee before anything begins, they will have a 50% chance of escaping. If an attack has already been wagered upon the character wishing to flee, then success drops to 40%. Escape attempts will have to be rolled in the discord for success (if not in the discord a player may request an admin complete the roll). Proof of the roll will be provided in each post. Be aware that if a character is successful at escaping, any fights that were for possession of something will automatically default possession of said item, lion, or pride to the lion that did not escape.

Critical Success
If your character rolls the highest number possible for their roll (say their dice are a d20, and they roll a 20) then that is considered a critical success! A critical success means that the roleplayer must then roll a d5 (!roll d5) for rebound damage to their opponent if the battle has begun. If the battle has not begun, the character will simply leave everyone in their dust!

Critical Failure
If your character rolls the lowest number possible for their roll (this is almost always a 1) then that is considered a critical failure! A critical failure means that the roleplayer must then roll a d5 (!roll d5) to see how much penalty damage is dealt to themselves on top of whatever damage the opponent deals.

Sneaking
20 base for dice that will be rolled.
Anyone sneaking in a thread must roll in the discord for their success or failure, this is accomplished by rolling in the discord #sneak-rolls channel. Keep in mind that sneaking rolls have to be maintained every single time your character posts, prior to your post. You cannot roll in the discord and then decide not to post if you get a bad outcome, that is considered poor sportsmanship.
In order to roll you must post what character is sneaking and what thread they are sneaking in, then post your roll.
To roll: !roll d20

Sneaking works a little differently than escaping and fighting because there will be several levels (including critical success or failure) to sneaking.

Rolling: 1-3
This is a critical failure! The character will be found out in the thread and the characters may react in whichever way they deem acceptable.

Rolling 4-10
The sneak has not been successful! Your character may enter and exit in the same post hearing only the information posted immediately before their arrival, lest they risk being found. Other characters may have heard them approach or gotten a whiff of their scent, but do not know where they are.

Rolling 11-17
Success! The character is in the thread and can maintain hidden, while gleaning the details from the interactions of others. There is no risk of being found for the duration of that round.

Rolling 18-20
Critical success! The character if joining late in a thread may have overheard things that were said in the six posts preceding their entrance! There is no risk of being found for the duration of that round.

As a final note, please keep in mind that in order for any threads to count towards character experience in order for them to level up their skills, a dice roll must have been used. This is to prevent unfair leveling by pre-determining an outcome of a fight, sneak, escape, etc, and tp keep it an equal playing field.
