Whether your character has found themselves caught in the throes of love, arranged into a relationship of convenience or prospertiy, overcome by desire in a one night stand, or some other imaginative (or not!) situation that has ended up in them reproducing, this page will outline everything you need to know about reproduction on the site. Breeding may happen at any time throughout the year as there are no seasonal restrictions onsite. There are some requirements all characters must meet before being able to have a litter.
- Characters must be two years of age
- Breeding threads are valid for two ooc months so long as the female has not gone inactive in that period
- Multi-father litters are allowed, up to three per litter
- Each parent must have a minimum of 50 posts to successfully breed
- A litter pass must be purchased by each parent - these are 25 feathers
- Lionesses may have up to 3 litters per year, once every 4 ooc months
Intersex characters are allowed on Aesseldar. True intersex characters (having both sets of reproductive organs) will have a 50/50 chance of success to be rolled by admin in the discord. Pseudo intersex characters (having only one set of reproductive organs but may appear to have of the other) are allowed and for reproductive purposes will be treated as endosex lions are, by one partner in the pairing “carrying” the cubs as the intersex lion can’t take on both roles. Which role intersex characters take is up to the players (to be designated at the time of joining/auditioning) and any limitations from whoever their partner is, true hermaphroditic characters must also be made clear upon audition. A completely intersex couple will have a 25% shot at a litter with every roll.
There are several different options for on site litters. Once a breeding thread has been completed, you will need to post in the litter request thread and specify whether you are pursuing a custom litter or would like the staff to roll a litter. The point of posting in the litter request thread is mostly to get a due date, and to make sure that if the cubs are being rolled you get adequate time to find players for the cubs. Any cubs that don't have players, or don't have their accounts created within two weeks of the birth will be considered deceased. Due dates are calculated from the time of the request, not from the time of the breeding. Pregnancies will last one ooc month, during which the lioness cannot go inactive.
Custom litters are subject to the same creation rules for every other character on site, outlined in the character creation section of the guidebook and allow complete freedom. If you do not like the rolls done and opt to go custom instead, that is also okay, additionally you may purchase re-rolls with feathers, all rolls are performed by staff. Rolled litters will dictate amount of cubs, sizes and genders of cubs, eye color, base pelt color, premium marking colors, and bonus mutation possibility.
If you have chosen to have a custom litter you may find roleplayers for all of your cubs before or after requesting the litter, but the cubs must be presented in the litter thread prior to the birth using the specified form. As a general rule all litters (rolled or custom) are capped at 3 cubs max, however you have the opportunity to purchase additional cubs (up to a max of 5) with feathers. If a rolled litter only rolls one cub, you may only purchase up to 2 additional cubs for the litter.
Parents of the litters will have final say in who roleplays the cubs. The staff will have no control over this, and we encourage creative freedom among all of you, but also ask you to respect wishes of parents in the creation guidelines they outline when applying to their litters. Parents will dictate if they choose to take inactive cubs back or not, and what their expectation is. This also goes for any other characters adopted on site that were not created by you. If an individual has created a cub in a litter and the cub is taken back, we will reserve that individual the right to ask the design they created (if it was created by them) be changed, or if the character was had for an extended period of time and art was purchased that they retain the right to use the design again.
At the moment we do not allow hybridization of any creatures to lions. We are planning to offer the opportunity for realistic hybrids as prizes for contests and more information will be added at that time. However if two creatures of the same species wish to "breed" they may do so, and there are no restrictions on when, post count, etc. However we are not offering any sort of official dice roll for these children- essentially if two roleplayers of creatures decide to have someone RP a child that child will need to be created as if a new character entirely.
