Happy 2021 to all! Big thank you for hanging out and being awesome for the first two-ish months of the site. It's been fun so far, looking forwards to a lot this year! If you haven't seen, after a delay, the last day of the advent can be claimed now (here). You have three choices for your last advent prize including a second chance at a creature pass. That's right we have creatures coming to Aesseldar now! Be sure to check the announcement for any rule clarifications if you're interested. Last big bit of news we do have our light layout "in the mist" ready to be used. There will still be tweaks and color changes coming in the next week or so by the fantastic dusk so don't be afraid if things look a little different.

12/15/2020 Staff
Congratulations to Zay for winning the pride raffle with Runar! Welcome our new pride, Adamo Autumna! Don't forget to keep posting in the advent to claim your awesome prizes, and within the next few days you'll see some additional posts cropping up in the ooc areas. We'd love some feedback on the site and will be adding an area for feedback and suggestions. We will also be adding a thread to post all your open threads. Another fantastic surprise is that Koafox (some of you may know her as Miranda from other sites) has said we are welcome to use their table switcher plugin. As soon as I get the files we will be integrating that into the site for everyone to enjoy!

12/7/2020 Staff
TWO news posts back to back my oh my stuff must be brewing! We wanted to let everyone know that the third pride slot has opened. Unlike the other slots we wanted to give everyone a chance to go for it as well, so we'll be raffling it! In order to enter the raffle please DM an admin or the Eoin account with your OOC and which character you'd like to enter the raffle with. The only requirement that has to be met is that the character must be 2 years of age or older (meaning that number of posts and feathers doesn't matter). So get your entries in, the more the merrier as we head into the new year! The other exciting news is that our neutral/lighter colored layout will be out by the end of the year, thanks to the lovely dusk!

12/5/2020 Staff
Thank you so much everyone for a fantastic first month opening. We wanted to thank you all and let you know that we've decided to extend the grand opening bonuses for one more week, so you can bring in your first three characters free through 12/11! In other news our first contests have started and we couldn't be more excited! You may participate in the following, if you haven't already partaken: Advent Calendar, Superlatives, Advertising Contest, OTMs, and the Writing Contests. We'll be releasing another update soon with some super fun surprises, but some of Eoin's events have drawn to an end and it appears some new boards may start popping up! Expect to see more of Eoin, as well as some adjustment to the event threads, for some of the future boards as well!

11/28/2020 Staff
As we bring another week to close we'd like to welcome everyone to participate in our first contest! The Advertising contest is up and provides some really great rewards, as well as participation rewards! Coming soon are the first set of OTMs and superlatives, a writing contest, a sneak peak at our more refined skills system, and a few other small updates. Happy weekend everyone!

11/19/2020 Staff
Thank you everyone for having joined us so far for our site opening and help us grow our community. We have had so many wonderful suggestions, and while we are processing some things and working on the skills, we wanted to let you all know that the OTMs and superlatives are coming! Keep an eye out soon for those. Also it appears that Eoin has been wandering around Aesseldar and may be up to no good... best get checking on his apperances for some good old fashion fun, and maybe even a sweet surprise!

11/4/2020 Staff
Welcome everyone to the grand opening of Aesseldar! We are excited to open our doors and build a community with all of you. As we being our journey together we would love you all to read through the grand opening thread, and remember that while we're transitioning into the start of this, we still have a few fantastic surprises coming. Our skill system is underway and we hope to have that out by the end of November, we would also love to have you all in the Discord with us and welcome any and all suggestions and feedback to help us improve the site! We have a number of things still to come, including a lighter colored layout, accessories in the shop, and would love to remind everyone that the top right series of three vertical dashes will open up the sidebar. In order to reference what IC month it is you will find the calendar link in the sidebar. Happy posting!

12/15/2020 Eoin
With three new terrains open and a third pride staking a claim once more, our mischievous deity Eoin appears to be up to no good again. The quake that cracked open the mountain and closed it once more was felt around the lands, and three new terrains popped open. Tryphosa Shore now has an Atoll sub-board, and there is a Desert and a Rift board. Several more will be coming... but first Eoin will make an impression.

11/17/2020 Eoin
The rainforest trembles, as if fighting back against those who dare to occupy it. The lands of Aesseldar are still only half-tamed, unfettered and unwilling to give way to any aspiring King, any growing empire. And just as quick as King Barnabas came to lay claim to it did it begin to push back, forcing his fledgling pride out with an unforgiving downpour, and a bitter resentment of the creatures that dwell within. With one pride felled, it leaves the opportunity for another to rise from the ashes.

11/4/2020 Eoin
It happened on a hot, humid night. No one there to witness it. Somewhere, surely, it could be heard. The start of a crack. The sound vibrating from mountain top to valley dips. It was a long and dreadful noise. Somewhere in the mountains, somehow, one of the peaks had collapsed. An impassible tower of sharpened points- gone. Snow, with the hidden rocks from the destruction, slid down the slopes that were formed by ages. A wave of white forced outward to cover all below. At first it is still much too dangerous to traverse. But with time the new ground settles and with it comes- a pass. On the other side awaits a land untouched by the curious paws. The lands of Aesseldar have been revealved and somewhere down below three pridelands sit empty, awaiting for eager travelers to start staking their claims. Please refer to the grand opening announcement for information on how to claim a pride slot and fully customize it, since there are some grand opening bonuses or exceptions that are not referenced in the guidebook! We would also love to let everyone know that any official in-character news that gets posted in this "in-character" section of the layout is going to be considered common knowledge for any character in-game. Consider it like an in-character bulletin board! We will keep it updated with relevant and applicable information and hope it helps inspire your plots.

Spring Y11
With spring the clouds begin to disperse and the warmer weather begins and new life blooms. With new lands having been discovered there is a plethora of places for the lions to explore and yet somehow that mischievous site deity never seems to stop bringing the surprises, some of which include occasional inclement weathers. Temps varying between 45°-80°F (7°-27°C).

All welcome!

A lion here, a lion there; it reeked of the smell of others in this land. The man made no effort to hide his disdain for it, moving along the terrain with seeking eyes and open ears. He looked over to Bryn for just a brief moment before scanning the horizon. It seemed to go on forever. Ugly, dull grass, bleak, neverending earth, with a mountain looming in the distance. “This place is bleak as fuck,” he commented passively, bored and unimpressed by the unappealing surroundings.

Eyes go back to Bryn once more, looking them over with a casual expression, “What're you thinking?” he didn't really care what they were thinking, but wanted to start a conversation to pass the time. Most of the places they'd been to so far was, to him, nothing of intrigue, and unfit for a comfortable life if they were ever to settle down. He hated being a loner, for all those nights when he had no energy to hunt or could find no food, and it showed in his appearance: he had a lean body, stomach too thin and not nearly as prominent. A lion is not fit to be alone, for while he had Bryn by his side, it still wasn't enough to keep the full grown beasts fully satiated.

Bryn was equally as bored as their brother. Their dark paws in a sort of automatic trance of walking. The whole place was so… bland. The lion thought of all the cool places they’d seen on their way to this lion-filled land. This place didn’t even compare. Their ear twitched as Séverin spoke, and they smiled their phoniest smile, their voice sounding airy and dreamy, “no! This place is perfect!” Then, their voice taking back its normal, somewhat monotonous patterns, they snorted, “If your thing is goddamn shrubs, puddles, and a puny stream of water.”

They shook their head, mohawk bouncing all about momentarily. They paused as their brother spoke. Their green-yellow eyes rolled, “I’m baffled so many lions would wanna live somewhere like here,” they chuckled, “I mean, I’ve smelled dozens of old scents, and yet, it’s so… boring. These must be the same lions who’s only aspiration is… settling down and having thirty kids before passing away and becoming grass.” Where was the drama? The intrigue? They hadn’t even seen any prides or anything yet, it was so weird, lions always grouped up! So where were they? Bryn was almost itching for a fight a bit, or some kind of argument. Not with Sev, though, his insults got old. speech

“We probably just haven't found the good stuff yet,” at that, he peaks once more over the horizon, stretching his neck just a little bit, as if it would help, “I'm tempted to go back,” back the way they came, where there was at least something besides dirt and dead grass to keep them company. Yet, he knew that there was nothing much better waiting for them if they went back.

Séverin stops for a moment to take an itch off his left ear. The afternoon sun, cloaked in a thin layer of clouds, looms in the distance. He squints,

OOC: So I realized I had less to say than I thought I did lol. I was originally thinking of just rough drafting it and waiting, but I posted anyway 'cause why not

Hunter had been exploring the lake and rainforest areas as of late. The 'unclaimed' portions anyhow, and this territory, while rather unstimulating in comparison was nearby and did provide some pleasantly suitable opportunities to hunt.

One of the benefits of avoiding attachment and a group proper was the freedom to wander far and wide as one pleased. No requirements to answer to the will of another, no regulations to follow beyond those self determined.

Of course the main downfall was food could be slim at times, even for one as creative and resourceful as himself. Due to his ... uniquely varied diet however Hunter was not underweight at the moment, though it could be accurately said he did not have any access fat on his toned frame more due to lack of opportunity rather than purposeful choice.

In a landscape as relatively flat and semi-barren as this unusual shapes and scents tended to stand out from a distance, as was the case in this moment. Sharp eyes caught warm hues, out of place in the cool season landscape. Scents brought to him from upwind, familiar and telling, causing his pupils to dilate slightly in recognition. Even from behind and seeing the figures only from a distance patterns and hues were known as farmilar.

Was it so?

But it had been so long.

At once he was on the hunt, low, cautious, quiet...moving from downwind and creeping carefully using what cover could be found. The game was afoot! What game? The game of see how close we can get to a sibling before being noticed. If he was fortunate perhaps it would be close enough to pounce. The thought caused a mischievous smile to curl the edges of his lips even as his ears slicked back in anticipation.

Yes. He could be a bit of a big cub at heart at times. (Albeit a huge vampiric, cabalistic, carnivorous cub.)

Ah yes, sometimes Bryn forgot Sev was the least pessimistic of their littermates. But, Bryn chuckled at his comment. Yeah, going back seemed pretty good right now. Bryn stepped into a puddle in disgust. Before continuing on their way, this place was much too damp so far. They paused as Sev did. Bryn didn’t notice anything out of the ordinary. Though they were a good fighter, they were a bit bad about neglecting hunting and tracking. If it was blood, Bryn noticed it very quickly, but just a random lion’s scent? Not necessarily. They looked at Sev, almost looking like they wanted to say something, and yet they held their tongue.

It had been so long since they’d seen Hunter. It was still something that they hadn’t gotten over. Their heart had hurt when their brother said he had wanted to leave, but Bryn wasn’t ready to leave at the time. They had to help their parents and younger siblings, or at least that was how they’d felt at the time. When they and Séverin decided to leave, they left together. Bryn had felt betrayed, selfishly, when Hunter had left, why would he ever want to leave the family? There were so few out in the world who understood them or their cravings, and Hunter felt it worst of all.

A small, crisp breeze danced around his fur, the wind traveling behind them as all scents in front of them came forward. It was not his sense of smell that aided him in finding the stranger--rather, his eyes were the one to find the culprit, albeit not for a while. At first, Severin was completely unaware of the lion that stalked him, and so he continued to move forward with his hazelnut-toned sibling.

Severin was already mindful and cautious of his surroundings, but not so much that he checked all around him often enough to notice the other immediately. By the time he did spot the stalker, they were a good handful of yards away. It was close, so disturbingly and offensively close that Severin bared his fangs, letting out only a brief growl before he charged at the perpetrator with no further warning. Whoever they were, they were clearly out to get something from one of them.

What did he want? Did he hope to steal Severin's bone necklace? To kidnap one or both of them? Or perhaps he was just mad and looking for a fight. Whatever the case, he would be met with fury--head lowers and ears fold into the thicket of his mane. His eyes narrow and claws unsheathe. Then, he opens his maw wide in an attempt to grab hold of the other's upper jaw, just behind the nose. Whether or not that is successful, both forearms will attempt to hold onto each side of the other's face, to keep his head pinned where Severin wanted it.

Gaze shifted between the two figures, mind not yet made up which rear would get a playful smack. However as flame and poison shifted to Severin a shift in his brother's posture was noted. Fangs. Growl. Hmmm. What had given him away?

That didn't matter for the moment he supposed, not nearly as much as the fact that either his brother had not recognized him...or....for some reason he had come quite ticked at Hunter in his absence. Either way, now there was a problem.

He saw it coming, had enough warning to be proactive at least.

Hunter jerked sideways, taking a step to his own left and left his right front leg lifted at the terminus. Claws extended into the ground, hind limbs spreading slightly wider to help 'plant' him firmly as he sifted the majority of his body weight onto his hind quarters and legs.

His lifted right leg lashes out with a clawed paw attempting to slam with as much force as he could muster into his brother's left shoulder, into and grasp onto the flesh in an effort to stagger and push using his three grounded limbs as a support base.

The jaws aimed at his upper jaw instead sliced across his right cheek bellow the eye, the sting causing fire to flood into his veins...sharpening everything. Claws slapped against the upper sides of his neck, biting into the tensed muscle, fur and hair.

Lips are lifted into a snarl as eyes lock onto Severin's neck and an urge to latch onto it swells like a hot red tide. Oh shit. This had to be stopped fast - or it would go to far.

"SEVERIN! STOP!" he roared, a sharp and powerful snarl undertone biting through the order - a hint of urgency as well. Stop. While I can still stop. I don't want to hurt you.

And Bryn. He knew they were still present. Did his second littermate too not know who Hunter was? He hoped they either recognized him, or would stay out of it.

Bryn, who had previously been fairly bored. Snapped to attention as their brother did, giving him a questioning look. After several moments, Bryn smelled the scent as well. There were undertones of familiarity, but it wasn’t completely known. Suddenly, Sev was rushing forward, Bryn would turn and follow quickly after him. Wondering just how many lions he had smelled. Bryn was willing to fight, of course, but stopped short when they saw who their brother was going for. It wasn’t…?

He was so much bigger. His mane had filled in more. Though still he did not have the same stature of Bryn, they had gotten severely close (and yes, Bryn was extremely proud they’d kept their title of tallest sibling.) Bryn stopped snarling as they had been, “Séverin, that’s Hunter, what are you doing idiot?!” They growled at their brother as they shifted to watch the two tussle. Their nostrils flared at the scent of blood, but was able to hold back since some part of them knew it was their brother’s. Bryn decided it best to stay out of the small fight completely, lest one of them bite into each other. Bryn recognized the look in Hunter’s eyes. He’d always had the worst control of the Shakti urges.

Excitement begins to fuel his actions when the fight begins. Although he does not land his intended hold, jaws find purchase amongst the fleshy parts of the man's cheek. It is all a quick moment; just as he does so, the stranger's right arm slams itself against Séverin's left shoulder, causing the large man to stutter in his stance. Backclaws scrape the ground beneath him, and his body raises an inch or so off the ground. The bruising pain is immediately evident in the success, uttering forth a low growl from Séverin's throat.

But just as he goes to make further attacks does he quickly recognize both the scent and look of the other before him. It was not evident at first, for the wind was not on his side, but as close as he was, it was obvious now. Immediately does all aggression cease; the growl that bellowed in his throat stopped at once, and he pulled his teeth and body away before anymore damage could be done to both parties, “What the fuck? Hunter?” he was not confused, but astonished--how long had it been since they'd last seen their brother? What were the odds they'd come across him again? A sigh, a release of tension, and soon the man is butting heads harshly against Hunter's left shoulder in affection. If he'll let him, anyway.

“No way you survived on your own for this long. Who's been feeding you?” he teased, as if they had never parted, as if they had all been together this entire time. A smirked adorned his face.

Contact resounds beneath the pads and claws of his front paw, vibration shuttering up the lower portion of the limb as a result of the force and reverberation. There is a muted satisfaction, dulled only by the knowledge of just whose flesh was impacted.

Hunter is uncertain if it is his own words, Byrn's words, scent, or some other factor that triggers understanding in his brother. Whatever it is however, it came just in time. And as Severin ceases his attack and pulls back Hunter hisses in a shuddering breath between clenched jaws for a moment and moves a step back as well.

Breathe in. Breathe out. Through the maw. Try not to smell it. Not for another minute or so. Force the tension to bleed out of muscles. Force paws to relax and claws to withdraw. Breathe. Calm. He allows the headbutt, ironically the familiar gesture causing more muscles to relax rather than stiffen.

He laughs a soft, slightly breathy laugh at his brother's words. "Was that a 'What the fuck hunter!? Or a ' What the fuck? Hunter?" he had to ask teasingly. Because honestly, either way it was a valid question (s). Brows arch high at the teasing comment and he tosses Bryn a 'do you hear this?' glance and teasing flash of teeth before looking to Severin again.

"Come now, you know how creative I can be! I always manage to figure something out." Hunter had always been pretty damn good at stalking and hunting for his age, and he had gotten much, much better at it during his time alone.

"Things got to boring without me?" he quipped, humor in his gaze as he looked between his two siblings with a faint but honest spark of fondness. Had they TRIED to follow him, or just gotten lucky?
