Happy 2021 to all! Big thank you for hanging out and being awesome for the first two-ish months of the site. It's been fun so far, looking forwards to a lot this year! If you haven't seen, after a delay, the last day of the advent can be claimed now (here). You have three choices for your last advent prize including a second chance at a creature pass. That's right we have creatures coming to Aesseldar now! Be sure to check the announcement for any rule clarifications if you're interested. Last big bit of news we do have our light layout "in the mist" ready to be used. There will still be tweaks and color changes coming in the next week or so by the fantastic dusk so don't be afraid if things look a little different.

Congratulations to Zay for winning the pride raffle with Runar! Welcome our new pride, Adamo Autumna! Don't forget to keep posting in the advent to claim your awesome prizes, and within the next few days you'll see some additional posts cropping up in the ooc areas. We'd love some feedback on the site and will be adding an area for feedback and suggestions. We will also be adding a thread to post all your open threads. Another fantastic surprise is that Koafox (some of you may know her as Miranda from other sites) has said we are welcome to use their table switcher plugin. As soon as I get the files we will be integrating that into the site for everyone to enjoy!

TWO news posts back to back my oh my stuff must be brewing! We wanted to let everyone know that the third pride slot has opened. Unlike the other slots we wanted to give everyone a chance to go for it as well, so we'll be raffling it! In order to enter the raffle please DM an admin or the Eoin account with your OOC and which character you'd like to enter the raffle with. The only requirement that has to be met is that the character must be 2 years of age or older (meaning that number of posts and feathers doesn't matter). So get your entries in, the more the merrier as we head into the new year! The other exciting news is that our neutral/lighter colored layout will be out by the end of the year, thanks to the lovely dusk!

Thank you so much everyone for a fantastic first month opening. We wanted to thank you all and let you know that we've decided to extend the grand opening bonuses for one more week, so you can bring in your first three characters free through 12/11! In other news our first contests have started and we couldn't be more excited! You may participate in the following, if you haven't already partaken: Advent Calendar, Superlatives, Advertising Contest, OTMs, and the Writing Contests. We'll be releasing another update soon with some super fun surprises, but some of Eoin's events have drawn to an end and it appears some new boards may start popping up! Expect to see more of Eoin, as well as some adjustment to the event threads, for some of the future boards as well!

As we bring another week to close we'd like to welcome everyone to participate in our first contest! The Advertising contest is up and provides some really great rewards, as well as participation rewards! Thank you everyone for having joined us so far for our site opening and help us grow our community. We have had so many wonderful suggestions, and while we are processing some things and working on the skills, we wanted to let you all know that the OTMs and superlatives are coming! Keep an eye out soon for those. Also it appears that Eoin has been wandering around Aesseldar and may be up to no good... best get checking on his apperances for some good old fashion fun, and maybe even a sweet surprise!

Welcome everyone to the grand opening of Aesseldar! We are excited to open our doors and build a community with all of you. As we being our journey together we would love you all to read through the grand opening thread, and remember that while we're transitioning into the start of this, we still have a few fantastic surprises coming. Our skill system is underway and we hope to have that out by the end of November, we would also love to have you all in the Discord with us and welcome any and all suggestions and feedback to help us improve the site! We have a number of things still to come, including a lighter colored layout, accessories in the shop, and would love to remind everyone that the top right series of three vertical dashes will open up the sidebar. In order to reference what IC month it is you will find the calendar link in the sidebar. Happy posting!

With three new terrains open and a third pride staking a claim once more, our mischievous deity Eoin appears to be up to no good again. The quake that cracked open the mountain and closed it once more was felt around the lands, and three new terrains popped open. Tryphosa Shore now has an Atoll sub-board, and there is a Desert and a Rift board. Several more will be coming... but first Eoin will make an impression.

The rainforest trembles, as if fighting back against those who dare to occupy it. The lands of Aesseldar are still only half-tamed, unfettered and unwilling to give way to any aspiring King, any growing empire. And just as quick as King Barnabas came to lay claim to it did it begin to push back, forcing his fledgling pride out with an unforgiving downpour, and a bitter resentment of the creatures that dwell within. With one pride felled, it leaves the opportunity for another to rise from the ashes.

It happened on a hot, humid night. No one there to witness it. Somewhere, surely, it could be heard. The start of a crack. The sound vibrating from mountain top to valley dips. It was a long and dreadful noise. Somewhere in the mountains, somehow, one of the peaks had collapsed. An impassible tower of sharpened points- gone. Snow, with the hidden rocks from the destruction, slid down the slopes that were formed by ages. A wave of white forced outward to cover all below. At first it is still much too dangerous to traverse. But with time the new ground settles and with it comes- a pass. On the other side awaits a land untouched by the curious paws. The lands of Aesseldar have been revealved and somewhere down below three pridelands sit empty, awaiting for eager travelers to start staking their claims. Please refer to the grand opening announcement for information on how to claim a pride slot and fully customize it, since there are some grand opening bonuses or exceptions that are not referenced in the guidebook! We would also love to let everyone know that any official in-character news that gets posted in this "in-character" section of the layout is going to be considered common knowledge for any character in-game. Consider it like an in-character bulletin board! We will keep it updated with relevant and applicable information and hope it helps inspire your plots.

With spring the clouds begin to disperse and the warmer weather begins and new life blooms. With new lands having been discovered there is a plethora of places for the lions to explore and yet somehow that mischievous site deity never seems to stop bringing the surprises, some of which include occasional inclement weathers. Temps varying between 45°-80°F (7°-27°C).

When Rhu had fallowed her ma out of the den a month ago she would have never expected her life to change... She had always thought they would be together... But Now she knew better, knew that life can change on a dim.... And that one event could change everything...

She looked out over the grasslands, her amber eyes holding back the fresh grief that always accompanied thoughts of her ma... And then the flash of blood... Horror filled her as she saw the spreed of the red liquid spreed from her ma's slate colored pelt, staining the parched ground... Then anger quickly chased the horror... Anger at the one who took her ma from her... Who had sneered down at her and left her to die...

But the joke is on him! Rhu refused to die there beside her forever gone mother... No she would live and she would fight and she will find him and she will return the favor he gave to her ma. He will Rue the day he didn't kill Rhu.

But first things first. Rhu got to her large paws and looked out over the grass, her ears perked forward, and her intense eyes looking for something, anything, that she would fill the emptiness that had become her stomach since her mother drew her last breath...

Dried grasses crackled beneath her paws as the dark lioness transversed the steppe, paws stepped over the random stone that appeared, causing the landscape to seem uneven and jagged. The wind blew at her long fur, not biting but still rather persistent, blowing bits of stray plant debris every which way. In the distance a herd of gazelle grazed, nervously glancing up at the lioness in their sites- but she had no interest in them, the antelope much too fast for a lioness. No, the goddess had something else in mind as she approached a rotting Baobab. The thing looked pitiful, but all around it mandrills picked and groomed eachother. They came here once in a while, the colony ever traveling, but here was where they came to begin raising their young. Tired females, and young gathered at the base of the tree, males outside of their circle- watching for danger. Most prominent was their dominant male, his face wide and violently scarred. She would not be taking any of these lives though, as much as she would love to, for the younger monkies were far too violent and dangerous for one lioness- massive in size or not. No, the ember gaze was set on an elderly male, likely the dominant before his younger counterpart, still large in size but graying. There wasnt much cover, her only chance was offense and violent measures. And so those are what she took. She rushed in suddenly after circling twice, all the mandrills yellow and green eyes following her with increasing aggression, growls and screams from their depths. Jaws closed around the elder's neck, the creature giving out a single, angry scream before his neck snapped in her jaws and she ran, snarling at the feeling of long inscicors slicing into her hind quarters- pain not slowing her much as she kicked whatever soldier had bitten into her thigh. She slowed to a stop only once she was far from the colony, now with a slight limp, but it would do. She settled down, wasting no time shredding into her kill.

The last thing the goddess expected was to see the face of a starry child poke from the grass. She didn't snarl defensively- after all, it was a small child, the worst she could do is try to guilt trip food off her- like Fenella. "Are you lost?" she asked, an eyebrow quirked. She didn't see another lion nearby. Maybe her guardian was hunting..... Maybe not.

She had heard the monkey things when she moved further into the grass, had smelled them even further and she wondered if they would taste as good as the rabbits that her ma used to bring her... But before she could get any closer to see whatever they where screams filled the air and then the smell of blood... She paused and crouched, waiting for whatever had disturbed the monkeys to leave but it seemed fate had other plans for the hunter did not leave she came closer and stopped not two feet from her hiding spot and in her jaw she could see one of the odd looking creatures that had looked much smaller from a distance... Her stomach growled... She stuck her head out of the grass and stretched her neck to get a closer sniff... But the woman turned toward her and addressed her. Rhu moved further out of the grass and tried to look tough, puffing out her chest and flashing a very long fang. "No." She looked the female in the eyes... She was really big, bigger than her ma... But she wasn't afraid... She wasn't... And maybe if she kept telling herself that it would be true. Her ma used to say you are what you showed the world, and so she would show the world that she wasn't a scared, lonely cub. And all the while her stomach growled as if it was a lion itself.

Volcan watched as the cub came out from partial hiding, denying haveing lost her way. The goddess couldnt help but be amused at her defensive posture the cub had adopted, her chest out. The child seemed to have very elongated fangs, ones that would turn out to be longer than the empress herselves once they grew a bit more. "Good to hear you havent been separated from your herd, little lamb." she chuckled, tearing into her prey once again and indulging a bit more before returning her attention back to the midnight child. "Where is your caretaker?" she questioned. She hoped, simply, she was not orphaned. The young one being so would mean she would want her food.

Rhu huffed when she saw how amused the large woman was... Feeling slightly embarrassed as she called her a lamb... What was a lamb anyway? It didn't sound tough and Rhu needed to be tough if she was to face the lion who haunted her dreams. But first she had to hurtle this little encounter first. Then she asked about her ma and everything in Rhu deflated. Her ears and little tail dropped as her head hung. "Dead..." She quickly looked away from the woman and took a deep breath before returning her gaze to the ebony lioness. Where once there had been a deep grief there was once more a blank face. She would not show this stranger her pain and fear, she would be tough and strong and brave, she will never show weakness just as her ma bide her in her dying breath. She would grow strong enough to kill the male who had left her for dead... But first she would need some food.

She nodded once to the woman and moved back into the grass, not once looking at the woman's food. She would get her own, her pride demanded she fend for herself, just as her ma did. She dropped her nose to the ground to see if she could find the monkey things again and just like the older lioness she would kill one herself.

Volcan frowned sadly at the child's answer. So she was indeed an orphan..... She didn't want to, but her heart twinged. Despite the fact her children were adults, she didn't want to think of the grief they would feel at her death- even if they knew her body was simply a hindering vessel, keeping her ascended form from power. Regardless, the cub in front of her was alone.... "That is unfortunate, to say the very least." she said. The goddess watched as the star child sniffed at the ground- giving her an uneasy feeling. The only thing out here were the mandrills, the cub surely didn't think she could get anywhere near them? "If you are hungry, partake of my kill. But perhaps i should show you what these creatures are capable of." she said, standing to tower above the cub, twisting around to reveal the blood caked bites on her rump. "And that was just one of them." she gave clarity. "Tell me, little night cub, what is your name?"

Rhu flicked her ear at the woman blasé tone about the loss of her mother. Not sure how to respond to her mild understatement. Rhu's world had ended when her mother died, It was devastating and sad not just unfortunate... But Rhu kept her tangent to herself, she was much more focused on figuring out how to fill her growing belly than the unstated decimation of Rhu's world. She was about to set out when the woman called out to her once more. Rhu frowned slightly as she turned and her eyes once more went to the dead monkey thing... She wanted to share? No one ever wanted to share, her mother always needed to chase off other predators before they stole her kill, saying that they would never be content with only a part of her meal but would instead take it all and leave them hungry...

Rhu blinked up at the woman, confusion filling her eyes... Then she looked where the woman bade and saw the tear in her flesh that had been the origin of the scent of blood. She regarded the bite for a while and could see that it would hurt if that where to happen to her... Maybe the monkey things where not the right thing to hunt until she grew big enough to take a bite suck as the stranger before her. Maybe thew smart thing to do is do as the woman wanted and share... Rhu nodded. "K," She said moving forward to take a bite... But just until she grew big, when she was big she would get her own food, and then she would get strong, strong enough to never lose anyone else.... To never let someone take anyone she loves from her... When she was big and strong she would protect everyone who matters.

After she finished with her first bite she looked up at the woman and simply said, "Rhu. Who you?"

The obsidian goddess sat back onto her haunches, allowing the young cub to access the prey without her in the way of any meaty parts. She knew, that afterall, dhe could always kill something else- or eat from the food stores like those who were not adept hunters in her kingdom. Ember lit eyes watched as she began to fill her belly, a small smile given as she revealed her name. "I, little Rhu, am Volcan Embre- empress of Ignis empire, a kingdom by a lake." she said proudly. Her face fell as she thought of Rhu's situation. "There is anplace for you in Ignis, if you would like. You wouldn't be alone, or have to worry of your next meal." she said softly, her gaze sympathetic.

Rhu passively watched the woman as she introduced herself, giving a lofty title and name of her empire, as if it would mean anything to Rhu.... And it didn't. Rhu and her ma had been loners since her birth and she had known of no empires or kingdoms or prides. Nor did she truly understand the use of any rank or title. So she just stared at her as she continued to invite her to join her group or pride or empire or whatever it was...

That made Rhu pause for a moment to think about the offer... One she instinctively wanted to refuse right away but before she uttered the word 'no' she thoughts a little longer on it. Having a home would mean she would have a safe place to go to every night to sleep, and that in itself would mean she would be able to grow strong if safety... And she wanted to be strong more than she wanted to be self sufficient... And Rhu had a feeling that the 'empress Volcan Embre' was very strong, and maybe she would be able to teach Rhu how to fight.... "Okay, but only until I grow strong." This would be the compromise. Rhu would agree to stay with Volcan for now and when she was older and stronger she would make her own way in this world.

Volcan waited patiently as the child's facial expressions changed, confused, to thoughtful, to determined. Finally, the young one agreed to join her. Only until she was strong. The empress would not stop her from leaving once she was older, after all, many saught out independence upon reaching the age they could care for themselves. "I will teach you anything you wish, and help you reach your goals of strength, little Rhu." she purred, curled ears pointed forward. "Come along now," the goddess said, turning towards the direction she had first come from, "let's go home."
