Happy 2021 to all! Big thank you for hanging out and being awesome for the first two-ish months of the site. It's been fun so far, looking forwards to a lot this year! If you haven't seen, after a delay, the last day of the advent can be claimed now (here). You have three choices for your last advent prize including a second chance at a creature pass. That's right we have creatures coming to Aesseldar now! Be sure to check the announcement for any rule clarifications if you're interested. Last big bit of news we do have our light layout "in the mist" ready to be used. There will still be tweaks and color changes coming in the next week or so by the fantastic dusk so don't be afraid if things look a little different.

Congratulations to Zay for winning the pride raffle with Runar! Welcome our new pride, Adamo Autumna! Don't forget to keep posting in the advent to claim your awesome prizes, and within the next few days you'll see some additional posts cropping up in the ooc areas. We'd love some feedback on the site and will be adding an area for feedback and suggestions. We will also be adding a thread to post all your open threads. Another fantastic surprise is that Koafox (some of you may know her as Miranda from other sites) has said we are welcome to use their table switcher plugin. As soon as I get the files we will be integrating that into the site for everyone to enjoy!

TWO news posts back to back my oh my stuff must be brewing! We wanted to let everyone know that the third pride slot has opened. Unlike the other slots we wanted to give everyone a chance to go for it as well, so we'll be raffling it! In order to enter the raffle please DM an admin or the Eoin account with your OOC and which character you'd like to enter the raffle with. The only requirement that has to be met is that the character must be 2 years of age or older (meaning that number of posts and feathers doesn't matter). So get your entries in, the more the merrier as we head into the new year! The other exciting news is that our neutral/lighter colored layout will be out by the end of the year, thanks to the lovely dusk!

Thank you so much everyone for a fantastic first month opening. We wanted to thank you all and let you know that we've decided to extend the grand opening bonuses for one more week, so you can bring in your first three characters free through 12/11! In other news our first contests have started and we couldn't be more excited! You may participate in the following, if you haven't already partaken: Advent Calendar, Superlatives, Advertising Contest, OTMs, and the Writing Contests. We'll be releasing another update soon with some super fun surprises, but some of Eoin's events have drawn to an end and it appears some new boards may start popping up! Expect to see more of Eoin, as well as some adjustment to the event threads, for some of the future boards as well!

As we bring another week to close we'd like to welcome everyone to participate in our first contest! The Advertising contest is up and provides some really great rewards, as well as participation rewards! Coming soon are the first set of OTMs and superlatives, a writing contest, a sneak peak at our more refined skills system, and a few other small updates. Happy weekend everyone!

Thank you everyone for having joined us so far for our site opening and help us grow our community. We have had so many wonderful suggestions, and while we are processing some things and working on the skills, we wanted to let you all know that the OTMs and superlatives are coming! Keep an eye out soon for those. Also it appears that Eoin has been wandering around Aesseldar and may be up to no good... best get checking on his apperances for some good old fashion fun, and maybe even a sweet surprise!

Welcome everyone to the grand opening of Aesseldar! We are excited to open our doors and build a community with all of you. As we being our journey together we would love you all to read through the grand opening thread, and remember that while we're transitioning into the start of this, we still have a few fantastic surprises coming. Our skill system is underway and we hope to have that out by the end of November, we would also love to have you all in the Discord with us and welcome any and all suggestions and feedback to help us improve the site! We have a number of things still to come, including a lighter colored layout, accessories in the shop, and would love to remind everyone that the top right series of three vertical dashes will open up the sidebar. In order to reference what IC month it is you will find the calendar link in the sidebar. Happy posting!

With three new terrains open and a third pride staking a claim once more, our mischievous deity Eoin appears to be up to no good again. The quake that cracked open the mountain and closed it once more was felt around the lands, and three new terrains popped open. Tryphosa Shore now has an Atoll sub-board, and there is a Desert and a Rift board. Several more will be coming... but first Eoin will make an impression.

11/17/2020 Eoin
The rainforest trembles, as if fighting back against those who dare to occupy it. The lands of Aesseldar are still only half-tamed, unfettered and unwilling to give way to any aspiring King, any growing empire. And just as quick as King Barnabas came to lay claim to it did it begin to push back, forcing his fledgling pride out with an unforgiving downpour, and a bitter resentment of the creatures that dwell within. With one pride felled, it leaves the opportunity for another to rise from the ashes.

11/4/2020 Eoin
It happened on a hot, humid night. No one there to witness it. Somewhere, surely, it could be heard. The start of a crack. The sound vibrating from mountain top to valley dips. It was a long and dreadful noise. Somewhere in the mountains, somehow, one of the peaks had collapsed. An impassible tower of sharpened points- gone. Snow, with the hidden rocks from the destruction, slid down the slopes that were formed by ages. A wave of white forced outward to cover all below. At first it is still much too dangerous to traverse. But with time the new ground settles and with it comes- a pass. On the other side awaits a land untouched by the curious paws. The lands of Aesseldar have been revealved and somewhere down below three pridelands sit empty, awaiting for eager travelers to start staking their claims. Please refer to the grand opening announcement for information on how to claim a pride slot and fully customize it, since there are some grand opening bonuses or exceptions that are not referenced in the guidebook! We would also love to let everyone know that any official in-character news that gets posted in this "in-character" section of the layout is going to be considered common knowledge for any character in-game. Consider it like an in-character bulletin board! We will keep it updated with relevant and applicable information and hope it helps inspire your plots.

Spring Y11
With spring the clouds begin to disperse and the warmer weather begins and new life blooms. With new lands having been discovered there is a plethora of places for the lions to explore and yet somehow that mischievous site deity never seems to stop bringing the surprises, some of which include occasional inclement weathers. Temps varying between 45°-80°F (7°-27°C).

I hope I do not burn

The peace and calm of the shoreline in autumn was... suffocating. He felt guilty not relaxing and enjoying himself more. Down a stretch of sand shorebirds ran up and down with the ushering of the waves, and down further still something small and four legged prowled along looking for an easy meal. The big lummox Vermillion stood in the wash of the tide, tips of white foamy waves rolling up over his toes, staring outwards at the ripples of the water beyond the surf. The sun glimmering across the peaks and shadows consuming the valleys as the ocean danced so carefree and joyful below the sun amongst the cooling wind rolling in from further out to sea. It tussled the black and auburn of the swampy lion's mane, it ushered his bangs around forwards and across the vision of his sea foam green eyes. He did not like the quiet, he did not like standing still here and he certainly struggled with what to do about it. As silly as it sounded- for his feet worked fine, his legs could move if he set his mind to it. But across his entire body he felt like there was a weight, he was breathing but out of breath and his soul absent as he stood and watched nothing.

She'd left on a note she did not want to, but it was hard to do any different when she'd been mangled, bedraggled, and half-dead. Alysanne had thought herself relieved of her life, fettered to death as had her parents and her brothers and sisters; and yet she'd awoken, left alone in a dusty cave with scars and smarting wounds. But she could not help the burning feeling of grief, of the weight that bore on her slender shoulders as she traveled alone, again. She missed her mate, her friends, the family she'd built for herself because the family she'd been born to had failed her so hard.

Eventually, she met the sea. Alysanne had come from the sea, in a sense, when she'd first washed ashore bruised and bloodied and battered and begging for help. But both the insurmountable happiness and the struggle and ruination that followed in its wake had changed her, and the once-smiling, optimistic sandcat seemed much more sullen now. She'd grown skinny, and where once her abnormally plush fur would have stood proudly to attention, it was now unkempt, matted, and curled. And she was certain she'd long begun to see ghosts; visions of the past haunted her in those days she could not catch prey well, and felt the twinge of her stomach machinate with the tired blurriness in the corners of her eyes.

She saw one such ghost down the beach. Large, swampy, and handsome, as she'd always remembered him.

Alysanne had never entertained attempting to talk with her hallucinations before, but the more he seemed corporeal upon her approach, the more tempting it grew. But unlike her other hunger-induced delusions, his figure did not disappear like a mirage, he did not slip away into the recesses of the horizon as so many others had done. And as she approached, even his smell had begun to overcome the stinging salt of the sea. “Vermillion,” she cried out, desperate, hopeful, “Vermillion.”

The confliction of the chilling desperation and the warming hope in her voice was like a knife to his gut. She repeated his name and it was like the blade twisted deeper, tearing and plunging through his physical body to strike and harm his soul. His friends, his family, what had they suffered in their time apart? What damage was done merely in his absence, that he otherwise could have stopped? What came to them as a direct result of his actions? His head turned like a machine upon his neck, twisting around his rusted and ebony mane with a longing and ache in his green eyes he searched for the familiar and safe small form. Mercifully there she was, in far better shape than he could hope or wish for. Vermillion you should not doubt the ability of your friends and allies to survive without you, you worthless thing. "Aly-"

He uttered the word softly, his legs began to find their usefulness below him as they carried him towards her. Ages of worry abandoned with each step he left it behind on the sand in his fading paw prints. "Alysanne." The weight of her name was heavy, it bogged down all of his voice and tone. It felt like lifetimes had been spent without her and every bit of her was still was familiar as the last day he saw her. Vermillion stopped just short of her with his body aching to close the gap entirely but held back by a doubt, a worry as he waited for permission and indication she wanted the hug and embrace he desperately needed from her.

He was no illusion; he was real, standing there, bracing against the salt and seawind and so very corporeal and real. Alysanne's breath hitched in her throat, and though she'd paused just to make sure he did not disappear into the grey sky, she was instead gifted with the sound of his voice—his voice, not some shattered, fragmented memory of it. Aly- he uttered, so softly she could barely hear it above the roar of the waves, but just barely could she see the mouthing of his lips enough to know what he was saying.

Where Alysanne was starstruck and fettered to her stance, half-wild and slackjawed, Vermillion began to move forth and close the distance left between them. Alysanne, he spoke again, this time far clearer as he approached closer and closer. And though she wanted nothing than for him to barrel straight into her, to tumble across the sands in a tangle of fur and laughter and uttered words of contentment and relief, Alysanne saw the way in which he stopped, as if these long months spent apart had given him pause. Alysanne, after all, could remember little of what happened in those final fleeting moments: she remembered only what was blindingly white, and startling painful, and then an empty darkness. From there, she'd been desperate to find him, to find anyone. Would he have held a resentment if it had been he in her paws?

Damn those thoughts, however, Alysanne had none—and as soon as he'd paused, she'd launched forward, barreling her far-smaller frame into his own. She wasn't quite able to topple him like he might've her, but she could no longer deny herself from pushing as deep into his mane along the crook of his neck, desperate to find his familiar scent underneath all the salt and sand tangled in his tangled ringlets. “Oh thank heavens it's actually you,” she breathed, and suddenly realized her voice was choked with a sob, “I missed you. I missed you so much.” She missed them all, in fact, but Alysanne would be thankful for this one surrender; Vermillion, above all the rest, perhaps she missed the most.

He feared a rejection- his warped and devilish mind was convincing him he deserved it. No lion, but especially not he, deserved what was being delivered to him a platter lately. If she should decide she wanted nothing more to do with him it... well he'd understand. Half the time he didn't want anything to do with himself but trapped as he was he suffered instead. He built himself up for a pain that never came. Instead of forced to watch her leave he felt her warmth press against his swampy fur and cuddle up against him, a blossoming joy and elation birthed from their contact enough to melt the ice and snow far atop the mountains. Vermillion lifted a limb, aiming to drape it loose across her back and hold her close to him as he dropped his head to press his nose against the back of her neck and down towards her shoulders. His senses swarmed with her, the familiar, safe, strong creature that was Alysanne.

He exhaled, his breath hot and choking with sobs of emotion as every single one of his senses confirmed she was real. "I'm sorry- I'm so sorry Alysanne." For what? For it all? For not being there? He wasn't sure himself but there was a weight inside that consumed, a guilt large enough to crush him that he was desperate to let go of. Maybe he had no reason to feel it but it didn't make the destruction his soul was suffering any less real. His body trembled and softly he sobbed into her pale sandy fur.
