Happy 2021 to all! Big thank you for hanging out and being awesome for the first two-ish months of the site. It's been fun so far, looking forwards to a lot this year! If you haven't seen, after a delay, the last day of the advent can be claimed now (here). You have three choices for your last advent prize including a second chance at a creature pass. That's right we have creatures coming to Aesseldar now! Be sure to check the announcement for any rule clarifications if you're interested. Last big bit of news we do have our light layout "in the mist" ready to be used. There will still be tweaks and color changes coming in the next week or so by the fantastic dusk so don't be afraid if things look a little different.

Congratulations to Zay for winning the pride raffle with Runar! Welcome our new pride, Adamo Autumna! Don't forget to keep posting in the advent to claim your awesome prizes, and within the next few days you'll see some additional posts cropping up in the ooc areas. We'd love some feedback on the site and will be adding an area for feedback and suggestions. We will also be adding a thread to post all your open threads. Another fantastic surprise is that Koafox (some of you may know her as Miranda from other sites) has said we are welcome to use their table switcher plugin. As soon as I get the files we will be integrating that into the site for everyone to enjoy!

TWO news posts back to back my oh my stuff must be brewing! We wanted to let everyone know that the third pride slot has opened. Unlike the other slots we wanted to give everyone a chance to go for it as well, so we'll be raffling it! In order to enter the raffle please DM an admin or the Eoin account with your OOC and which character you'd like to enter the raffle with. The only requirement that has to be met is that the character must be 2 years of age or older (meaning that number of posts and feathers doesn't matter). So get your entries in, the more the merrier as we head into the new year! The other exciting news is that our neutral/lighter colored layout will be out by the end of the year, thanks to the lovely dusk!

Thank you so much everyone for a fantastic first month opening. We wanted to thank you all and let you know that we've decided to extend the grand opening bonuses for one more week, so you can bring in your first three characters free through 12/11! In other news our first contests have started and we couldn't be more excited! You may participate in the following, if you haven't already partaken: Advent Calendar, Superlatives, Advertising Contest, OTMs, and the Writing Contests. We'll be releasing another update soon with some super fun surprises, but some of Eoin's events have drawn to an end and it appears some new boards may start popping up! Expect to see more of Eoin, as well as some adjustment to the event threads, for some of the future boards as well!

11/28/2020 Staff
As we bring another week to close we'd like to welcome everyone to participate in our first contest! The Advertising contest is up and provides some really great rewards, as well as participation rewards! Coming soon are the first set of OTMs and superlatives, a writing contest, a sneak peak at our more refined skills system, and a few other small updates. Happy weekend everyone!

11/19/2020 Staff
Thank you everyone for having joined us so far for our site opening and help us grow our community. We have had so many wonderful suggestions, and while we are processing some things and working on the skills, we wanted to let you all know that the OTMs and superlatives are coming! Keep an eye out soon for those. Also it appears that Eoin has been wandering around Aesseldar and may be up to no good... best get checking on his apperances for some good old fashion fun, and maybe even a sweet surprise!

11/4/2020 Staff
Welcome everyone to the grand opening of Aesseldar! We are excited to open our doors and build a community with all of you. As we being our journey together we would love you all to read through the grand opening thread, and remember that while we're transitioning into the start of this, we still have a few fantastic surprises coming. Our skill system is underway and we hope to have that out by the end of November, we would also love to have you all in the Discord with us and welcome any and all suggestions and feedback to help us improve the site! We have a number of things still to come, including a lighter colored layout, accessories in the shop, and would love to remind everyone that the top right series of three vertical dashes will open up the sidebar. In order to reference what IC month it is you will find the calendar link in the sidebar. Happy posting!

12/15/2020 Eoin
With three new terrains open and a third pride staking a claim once more, our mischievous deity Eoin appears to be up to no good again. The quake that cracked open the mountain and closed it once more was felt around the lands, and three new terrains popped open. Tryphosa Shore now has an Atoll sub-board, and there is a Desert and a Rift board. Several more will be coming... but first Eoin will make an impression.

11/17/2020 Eoin
The rainforest trembles, as if fighting back against those who dare to occupy it. The lands of Aesseldar are still only half-tamed, unfettered and unwilling to give way to any aspiring King, any growing empire. And just as quick as King Barnabas came to lay claim to it did it begin to push back, forcing his fledgling pride out with an unforgiving downpour, and a bitter resentment of the creatures that dwell within. With one pride felled, it leaves the opportunity for another to rise from the ashes.

11/4/2020 Eoin
It happened on a hot, humid night. No one there to witness it. Somewhere, surely, it could be heard. The start of a crack. The sound vibrating from mountain top to valley dips. It was a long and dreadful noise. Somewhere in the mountains, somehow, one of the peaks had collapsed. An impassible tower of sharpened points- gone. Snow, with the hidden rocks from the destruction, slid down the slopes that were formed by ages. A wave of white forced outward to cover all below. At first it is still much too dangerous to traverse. But with time the new ground settles and with it comes- a pass. On the other side awaits a land untouched by the curious paws. The lands of Aesseldar have been revealved and somewhere down below three pridelands sit empty, awaiting for eager travelers to start staking their claims. Please refer to the grand opening announcement for information on how to claim a pride slot and fully customize it, since there are some grand opening bonuses or exceptions that are not referenced in the guidebook! We would also love to let everyone know that any official in-character news that gets posted in this "in-character" section of the layout is going to be considered common knowledge for any character in-game. Consider it like an in-character bulletin board! We will keep it updated with relevant and applicable information and hope it helps inspire your plots.

Spring Y11
With spring the clouds begin to disperse and the warmer weather begins and new life blooms. With new lands having been discovered there is a plethora of places for the lions to explore and yet somehow that mischievous site deity never seems to stop bringing the surprises, some of which include occasional inclement weathers. Temps varying between 45°-80°F (7°-27°C).

Finally. The sweet smell of salt and fish reached her nostrils as she inhaled deeply. Eyes lit up with delight as paws met the sand. Toes wiggled to enjoy the feel of tiny grains that sifted between them. Cranium raised just ever so slightly so that the sea breeze could sweep her locks from her facade. The sun was high, but due to the season it did not assault her as it would during summer.

She is warmed by its rays. Energized by the sound of waves that crashed to the shore. Watched as it pulled away the beach bit by bit, only to return just as much as it had taken upon its next push forward. A smile spread on her lips. She could not deny her limbs any longer as they lead her forward. There was an urgency with each step that took her to the shoreline. The ocean touched at her paws. This is where she wanted to make a home. Eventually, she would.

How long was it that she was on her own now? The feeling of relief washed over her every day that she didn't have to wake up to her mother's tirades or the snubbing of some of her pridemates. They all seemed like they had sticks up their asses for some reason or other that she was never told. She could only take so much and in the end, she'd needed a way out for her own health. It was like a breath of fresh air. Although, being alone was not something that she was used to. Hunting in groups was like second nature to a lioness and she was no exception, even if she was relatively antisocial for one of her own kind.

Despite her want to want to exclude herself from the social gatherings of other lions, she still felt the pull deep in her soul for companionship. Perhaps that was what lead her towards the sounds of this land, towards the smells of others... Was it the fact that there was something inside of herself longing for companions? It didn't feel that way when she could smell them everywhere. It made her... nervous. It made her defensive. She wanted to draw near just as much as she wanted to keep her distance. Maybe that's why she walked further towards the smell of the salty ocean. She was always intrigued by the ocean and now as no exception. In fact, she could stay beside the water as much as she wanted now that she didn't have a pride to pull her away.

The woman felt her fur touched by the salt-touched waves, the smell invigorated her after a long journey. Her eyes closed as she crested the sandy hills and she breathed in deep. It was lovely...

Until the smell of another lioness hit her. Her eyes snapped open and she looked until she found a slate lioness of similar stature to herself. Longing and annoyance seeped into her at equal intervals as she narrowed her eyes and then --after an indecisive pause-- turned to trudge further along the beach. Her paws were light and hopefully she wouldn't let the other lioness know of her presence as she tried to slink away further up the shore so she could enjoy the waves in peace.

She had almost gone unnoticed. Perhaps she would of if Rue had not decided to sweep her gaze from the calm ocean horizon line back to the sanded beach that stretched on either side. She only caught the tail end of it, or of her, as Rue should properly put it. How unfortunate for the stranger though, Captain Rue Drax was not only nosey but also a social sort. A smug smirk landed on her lips as she turned and forced her paws to retreat from the comfort of the ocean waves that had lapped at them so tenderly.

She made very little time of the distance. Her pace quick enough to cut it in half in a short few moments. "Ahoy thar matey! Fancy a good natter?" She called to the back of the blue lioness.

The woman tried to walk away, her paws falling lightly on the sand but she should have known that her luck wouldn't have held. She didn't even hear the pawsteps of the other lioness, it wasn't until the voice addressed her in that strange accent did she stop and look back over her shoulder. Her expression, normally one of neutrality, did flicker briefly to one of confusion before her mask was back. Who the hell talked like that? What was this?

Her tufted tail flicked once as she resigned herself to having to talk to this other lioness... but again, there was that fervent longing deep within her breast at the interaction. Always at odds with the woman she would prefer to be and the one that her nature would dictate. "The fuck is a 'natter'?" The words were out before she could even filter them. It didn't matter if she was social or not, her words were tempered for no one.

Her impassive gaze bored into the other lioness, eyes taking in her appearance and as always sizing up others in case she had to defend herself or run. Growing up where she did, she was always ready for such things. Not fearful, but prepared nonetheless. Not everyone took well to her short, clipped words, or abrasive bluntness.

Rue knew she was not everyone's cup of tea. Outwardly loud and flamboyant. She had no care to preserve the personal space or time of others. She was forward and brash. Yet despite all the flaws she knew she had, (and boy did she have some even deeper), she rather disliked negativity. She paused when the stranger did so. Her head cocked to the side with the same smug smirk. Ears pressed forward as toes pressed into the sand.

Her words caused her to clench her jaw, yet the corners of her lips did not falter their position. However, eyes narrowed just slightly and she straightened just a tad beneath the gaze she was pinned with. "A damned 'talk', since ye couldn't un'erstand." She scoffed. She could very well use big words. Her travels had lead her to have a rather vast vocabulary. And yet, she chose to keep the sea-bearing language of the pirate scoundrels that plundered her and her siblings as wee babies.

There was a smug smile on the other's face. It only seemed to grow when she opened with her crass statement. The blue lioness didn't particularly care for the smug look but whether she had one or not wouldn't change how she acted. Her personality or attitude wasn't the best but she wasn't about to hold her tongue when she had no clue what the subject of conversation was. Some lions liked to be polite and would hold in what they had to say, Blue was not exactly one of those lions.

Granted, she wasn't stupid but she wasn't a complete pushover either. She wouldn't mince words if she didn't have to.

The other responded with sharper tones but it was an answer to the question, no less. Still, she flicked an ear, a sign of slight irritation but she said nothing further on it. Instead, Blue gave a grunt of acknowledgement that she understood. A "talk". Natter. It was something she'd never heard before and she wondered what sort of accent that it was. Did all lions from here talk like this? What's more... did she really fancy a talk? "Never heard anyone talk like you." The woman admitted as she considered what was said.

The gnawing for a bit of social activity persisted.

The blue cat turned around to fully face the other woman, standing tall with that impassive gaze. "From here?" Because it would be valuable to know this information, to know more about the place she found herself in.

The longer they stood there, the more 'unruffled' her feathers became. After all, Rue was usually able to 'roll with the ocean'. Her back was slick like duck feathers to let things slide off with ease, metamorphically of course. The blue babe was used to her way of talking being pointed out. It was something she favored herself on. Her siblings didn't keep the slang alive as she did.

"Jus' a quirk o' th' trade. " She commented back about her speech. It came with the raising. She was glad when the other finally chose to turn and face her fully. Her smirk washed away with a small crooked smile. "Only as o' recently. " She answered with little hesitation. She found it easier to not hold back information when speaking to a lady rather than another male scoundrel. "I be Captain Rue Drax." She made it a point to bend her thick neck and give a faint bow of her cranium.

A quirk of the trade? Now that was interesting... What sort of trade was that? ...Pirates? She'd heard tale of such beings before. Plunderers. Marauders. The like... but she'd never put much stock into those tales. She'd assumed they were nothing more than stories for cubs to scare them or to let them imagine wild life on the seas but here was a woman that seemed as if she were straight from a story book. Blue's forehead wrinkled faintly at these strange thoughts.

"...Pirate?" It almost seemed silly to say out loud. To try to bring alive those fantastical tales but it was the first thing that came to mind. When the other spoke that she was relatively new to the land as well, Blue only gave a small "hm" in acknowledgement. Whelp, she likely wouldn't get much information out of the other there unfortunately.

Captain. That almost confirmed it and the woman glanced towards the sea, as if she expected to see a vast ship appear on the horizon. This was not how she expected this interaction to go. The initially strange and possibly mildly irritating lioness had morphed into something more intriguing. An encounter that lead into new and uncharted territory. "Blue." Was the simple reply of her name. No fancy titles, no last names. Just Blue.

Of course, Rue did not expect the word that slid from the stranger's lips. It caused her brows to raise in surprise and a look of interest to cross her facade, however fleeting that it was. It was replaced rather quickly with a look of pride as she tossed her skull back a fraction, along with some of her unevenly long, choppy mane. "Aye! That'd be me." Everyone had their different form of 'pirate'. Some tales were worse off than others. While her own was not the best in the past, she was on board to attempt something better here.

Something better. Though she was unsure how great it would actually be. After all, she rather adored the scoundrels, roughnecks, and mercenaries that she has kept in her crew. Some had even been around since she was a wee cub after they first brought in. Blue. It was simple and Rue like it. With a confirming nod, she muttered off, "That ye be lass, that ye be."Finally she would give the beach behind the lady a sweep of her attention. "Where's yer crew?"

So, they were real? That was a development that she hadn't expected today. Would this whole land be full of surprises? There was no telling... At the very least since this was new to her as well, there likely wouldn't be any other pirates. Although it begged the question if there were pirates all around the world that were just hanging out of sight. Piratest that those --apparently true-- children's tales came from. In any case, at the confirmation the blue woman let out a small "hm". A sound of interest but she remarked on it no further, simply keeping the intrigue to herself.

"--that ye be." She couldn't help the small huff that escaped her mouth at the remark. It was something of amusement but the woman seldom actually laughed. Yes, she certainly was. Her mother just had the most amazing imagination when it came to giving her a name... although it was more along the lines of "couldn't be bothered to think of a better name" but she wasn't going to go into specifics of her family life. The remark that the other woman made was amusing enough and had caught her --a little-- off-guard in the fact that she hadn't expected the other to say anything in regards to it.

"Am alone..." The woman answered in reply. Good riddance to her "crew" as well. Fuck the lot of them. It felt nice not to have to worry about fighting for a place at a kill or wondering if she'd have to put up with her mother's verbal sniping. "Yours? Thought pirates didn't do 'alone'." In all the tales she'd heard they'd always had crews but this one seemed as if she were by herself. Why?
